Job Description SummaryThe GE Safety Management System(SMS) Engineer / Technologist demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.The SMS Engineer/Technologist will be responsible for training, promotion, risk management, assurance, policy, procedures, processes, regulatory interaction and metrics associated with our Safety Management System.Job DescriptionRoles and ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the theory, design, development, practical implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the GE Aerospace SMS to support product safety methodologies and techniques for engines, services, systems, equipment anddevices.Execute processes to identify, evaluate, assess and mitigate safety risks inherent to the product design, production and maintenance, to an acceptablelevel.Provide SME guidance for safety policies, procedures, rigorous safety risk assessments, hazard evaluations, risk correction/control, monitoring, safety assurance processes, training and safety promotion across the Business in coordination with global GE Aerospace business activities andpriorities.Ensures integration of human factors principles to drive design, production and maintenance improvements in order to eliminate human error in products andservices.Requires specialized expert knowledge within the SMS function. Ability to influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influences policy formulation within GE Aerospace, with external industry partners, suppliers and regulators.Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve SMS performance, products, processes or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may informwork.Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology, services or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.Provide technical consultation on product problems throughout the business including supplier and fieldsupport.Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or fieldissues.Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and lettersRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or collegeMinimum of 5 years of experience in Systems EngineeringDesired CharacteristicsMaster's degree in engineering from an accredited university or collegeStrong oral and written communication skillsStrong interpersonal and leadership skillsDemonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of thebusiness.Problem analysis and resolution skillsDemonstrated leadership in defining the state of the art in at least one technical specialty, along with the ability to teach and set standard practices within thisfield.This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
