Position Title: Senior Software Engineer (Typescript))
Reporting To: Engineering Manager
Location: Chapel Hill, NC; Minneapolis, MN; Boston, MA (Newton Office); New York, NY
Compensation: This role can be hired for as a Senior Software Engineer 3 ($150,000-$165,000) or Senior Software Engineer 4 ($165,000-$180,000) depending on qualifications
Job Summary: Upon joining our team, you'll help develop the world-class technology platform at the heart of our engagement and behavior change platform. You'll get to work with a diverse group of backend and frontend (mobile and web) developers, data scientists and product managers to design, implement and govern product features that reach the hands of thousands of users. We expect you will deliver solutions that are holistically correct, efficient, secure and maintainable. Ownership, self-motivation, teamwork, and experience working in a fast-paced agile environment are highly desired.
Key Responsibilities: Own substantial workstreams, including both new user-facing features and improvements on our existing services ecosystemCollaborate with a team of mobile, backend and data science practitioners to create and deliver a seamless, tailored experience for our usersContribute substantially to platform architectural decisions and enhance our team's ability to make correct decisions that stand the test of timeHelp build and maintain internal administrative applications that support core functioning of our technology platformHelp us achieve operational excellence in the software development by participating in and leading code reviews, quality assurance, and production monitoringTake personal responsibility for keeping all Well systems and data, including sensitive member data, secure and safe, according to Well data and security policies and HIPAA guidelinesPreferred Qualifications: Thought leader in principled delivery of software utilizing Node.js, React, Typescript - ideally with a broad area of interest spanning other similar/promising programming languages. Proven grasp of engineering principles, a variety of common tools, patterns, algorithms/libraries and use cases, key trade-offs and systems designConfident intuition for both micro and macro level decision-making in software developmentProven coding capabilities, demonstrated ability to resolve complex technical challengesWillingness to learn new patterns, languages, technologies and methodologies, aligning both with our Engineering culture and continuously evolving technology environment.Good understanding of both microservices and monolith patterns with insight into choices and tradeoffs involvedExperience with modern cloud platforms; AWS, GCP, AzureGood understanding of the HTTP stack and REST APIsGood understanding of databases and their tradeoffsKnowledge or experience with backend for front end design, especially in support of Android and iOS mobile applicationsExperience in Healthcare contexts is considered a plus but not a necessityGood understanding of security principles in software development broadly and as specifically applied to consumer-facing applicationsAdditional Job Information Well is on a mission to redefine the healthcare experience.
