About the Role

The Senior Software Engineer position is responsible for project development, delivery, and the maintenance of existing applications under Matson Logistics Span Alaska business units. This individual has to provide support for Tier 1 applications in AWS cloud and ensuring smooth and timely delivery of new projects in collaboration with the project leads and managers. In addition, this individual has to provide technical solutions to business requirements and make enhancements. Also, provide direction to development teams and support freight management system (S.N.O.W) and first and last mile dispatch and yard applications. Must work well in a team environment and with multiple departments within Matson.

What you'll do:
Provide technical expertise to design, develop, and implement effective IT solutions for Span Alaska business units.
Demonstrate strong programming skills in Java, Web Services, Spring Framework and SQL.
Analyze and understand business problems/requirements and provide technical solutions.
Translate customer requirements into technical documents and provide direction to development team.
Effectively configure and implement new features in third party vendor applications.
Quickly adopt to industry trends and developments and apply that knowledge to improve our services to customers and carriers.
Coordinate with multiple technical teams on project deliverables and timelines.
Enforce coding standards, best practices, and consistently deliver high quality product.
Write efficient and testable code, build reusable components, and create code documentation.
Troubleshooting and debugging for an optimal performance
Work with external vendors and parties for end-to-end EDI and API integration.
Develop an understanding of the customer's business, build relationships, and identify opportunities for growth in all Matson services that are available.
You have these skills: Strong coding skills in Java, Spring Framework, Web services and SQL
Strong problem solving, analyzing, and debugging skills.
Strong knowledge in CD/CI pipeline and deployments in AWS cloud
Strong knowledge in application/web servers, Tomcat/Apache/JBoss
Good knowledge in web tools, browsers, and info-sec concepts
Strong knowledge in translating functional requirements into technical requirements.
Deep understanding of transportation supply chain EDI and API transactions.
And these qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or Post Graduation degree or equivalent in Business Administration Management
10 years of software and project development experience using JAVA, web technologies, Spring Framework, Web Services, JSON, Swagger, XML, Hibernate, HTML, CSS, React and 5+ years of project management experience.
Proven ability to use best practices by developing reusable code component, driving coding standards, performing code reviews, and providing key process improvement recommendations.
10+ years of experience in translating functional requirements into technical requirements.
Proven 5+ experience in Supply Chain, Freight Forwarding, Purchase Order Management, Warehousing and NVOCC business domains.
Strong understanding of version control tools.
Strong database and SQL programming experience - Oracle, MySQL experience a plus.
Linux/Unix experience, open-source Java stack and Tomcat/Apache/JBoss Servers
Strong INFOSEC understanding and build applications with sound Information Security/ Cyber Security principles.
Experience building large and complex analytics application using advanced analytics platform applying hands on big data skills.
Excellent communication skills
You're also great at: Ability to work with others across the organization.
Building strong relationships with business units and delivers solutions.
Effectively communicating in a variety of settings including one-on-one, small, and large groups.
Demonstrating creative and innovative thinking and encourage teams to bring their ideas.
Good communication and written skills.
Extra credit if you have: Experience implementing cloud-based solutions in AWS a plus.
Experience in EDI programming is a plus.

The annual salary range for this position in Washington is $101,600 - $138,200. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
