The historic Chino mine was among the world's first low-grade, open-pit copper mines. Today, the operation consists of a 36,000-metric-ton-per-day concentrator that produces copper and a 150-million-pound-per-year solvent extraction/electrowinning plant that produces copper cathode from solution generated by run-of-mine leaching.The community of Silver City boasts various restaurants, arts, entertainment, cliff dwellings, festivals and much more. Visit Silver City to learn more.What You Will DoProvides geomechanical project oversight and review relating to outside consultants, pit slope water control, structural geology, design slope angles and interfacing with mine design and planning. Reviews slope stability data collection, analysis and remedial work including slope monitoring data processing, rock strength parameters, geologic structures, slope control blast designs, and slope angle reviews. Communicate accurate, timely and relevant slope stability and geomechanical information to mine and site personnel. Conduct and communicate the results of inspections of pit walls, stockpiles, and site access roads. Proactively seek improvements to the safe mining of mine reserves relating to slope monitoring, slope maintenance, slope and catch bench designs, blasting, geomechanical data acquisition and analyses. Assists with the development, maintenance and implementations of strategic plans to enhance the mine's slope stability program. May represent the site on company sponsored steering teams related to geomechanical or mine slope stability efforts. Perform other duties as required. What You Bring To FreeportBachelor's degree in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related Engineering discipline and five (5) years of Engineering experience in hard rock mining relating to rock mechanics and rock slope stability, OR Master's degree in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related Engineering discipline and three (3) years of Engineering experience in hard rock mining relating to rock mechanics and rock slope stability Knowledge of the principles and practices of Engineering Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writingPreferred QualificationsStrong techical experience in soil mechanics and rockmechanics Experience with monitroing equipment: ground based radar, robotic total stations, piezometers, inclinometers, InSAR Exeprience with software: AutoCAD, Civil3D, MS3D, Maptek PointStudio or Vulcan 2 or more years of planning and supervising drilling programs (RC, core, sonic, etc) 2 or more years of supervising contractors on a job site Familairity with SAP and time coding for non-exempt employees 1 or more years of supervision experience of excempt and/or non-excempt employees Familarity with ROM and Waste Dump planning, construction, and operation Strong technical writing skills Experience writing or utilizing emergency action response plans, Monitoring Action Plan, Geomechanical Action Plan, or Trigger Action Response Plans What We Offer YouThe estimated annual pay range for this role is currently$94,000-$132,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
