Toole Design Group in Austin, TX is looking to hire an experienced and talented full-time Senior Engineer to join our team as part of the City of Austin's Active Transportation and Street Design Division (ATSD). A Day in the Life of a Senior Engineer You lead, support and mentor your team to deliver creative solutions for challenging quick-build projects. Like larger capital projects, which are predominantly constructed with asphalt and concrete materials, quick-build projects are meant to be built quickly using a variety of materials, flexible delivery processes, and funding mechanisms that are developing rapidly . You will share your knowledge with the augmented staff team and the client, delivering quick-build multimodal transportation infrastructure projects in a wide range of contexts, from roadway reconfigurations in highly urban settings to full intersection reconstructions to better serve all users. You help to lead a diverse team to develop project scopes, concept plans, and ultimately deliver final construction plan documents. You will use drafting programs such as MicroStation to fulfill project deliverables, while ensuring that our projects are consistently of the highest quality. You will also have access to key leaders within the City of Austin's transportation department, who will help to set clear project goals and outcomes.
Rapid implementation is exciting and fast-paced, but you get to work with a close-knit, motivated team that is passionate about the work they do. You will get to see your projects evolve from paper to pavement, transforming the City of Austin and getting to use the facilities you helped design.
Qualifications of a Senior Engineer : Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil engineering with a focus on transportation Professional Engineering license 10+ years of experience developing construction design documents for roadways or highways Experience developing and designing multimodal projects and a strong interest in multimodal and active transportation design A broad knowledge base in civil engineering with a transportation focus and specific knowledge of horizontal and vertical roadway geometric design, (MUTCD and AASHTO) Proficiency in CADD: MicroStation/AutoCAD General experience in coordinating utility and right-of-way impacts and street lighting, traffic signal, and landscape/hardscape layout Experience developing construction documents, cost estimates Exposure to construction management Additional experience with traffic operations expertise, and awareness of best practice for multimodal design (NACTO), a plus Experience coordinating utility, right-of-way, street lighting, traffic signals, landscape and hardscape layout from design to construction, a plus You'll be great here if: You have strong leadership skills and enjoy participating in multi-disciplinary teams You enjoy producing high-quality work products and seeing your projects get built You have strong communication skills, whether written, verbal, or graphical and can get your point across to the team and to the client You can build relationships, bring enthusiasm to exciting projects, and are detail oriented with strong problem-solving skills You work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment You consider a variety of options and opportunities for each project, given the context, to ensure the best outcomes are successfully implemented Work Schedule for a Senior Engineer : This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. This position is part of our full-time, on-site staff augmentation contract we have with the City of Austin's Transportation Department.
Since 2017, a team of Toole Design engineers have provided full-time, on-site staff augmentation to the City of Austin's Transportation and Public Works Department to deliver Mobility Bond projects focusing on bikeway, pedestrian, and transit related infrastructure. The contract supports many of the City departments including Bikeways, Safe Routes to School, Sidewalk and Urban Trails, Speed Management, Vision Zero, and Transit Enhancement work in partnership with the Capital Metro Transportation Authority.
