Job Description and Duties The California Department of Social Services, Disaster Services Branch is recruiting for a  Senior Emergency Services Coordinator (SESC) position. The SESC will perform the most  complex, difficult and sensitive emergency planning/management work;  independently responsible for significant, specialized emergency management  projects; may serve as lead person, team leader and/or project coordinator on the  most difficult and complex emergency management projects; serves as technical  program expert; consults with and provides technical assistance to local jurisdictions,  federal and state agencies, organizations and community groups regarding major  program development Issues or operations.

Working Conditions This work location is very convenient! The CDSS is located two blocks from the light rail and public transportation: within walking distance to the State Capitol, parks, restaurants, farmer's markets and the Golden 1 Arena. Our building has easy access to I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 80.

The SOQ is a narrative discussion outlining the specific and relevant experience, education, and training that qualifies you to perform the duties listed in the duty statement within the context of the prompts listed below.

Please answer the following as a part of your SOQ:

1. Describe your knowledge of, and experience in emergency management programs and disaster operations.
2. Describe your knowledge of, and experience with stakeholder coordination and fostering partnerships.
3. Please describe a time where you had to present to a large audience on a topic that you were not knowledgeable in and what steps you took to prepare.

The SOQ should be no longer than two pages, singled spaced, in no less than Arial 11- point font, with your name clearly noted at the top of each page. If you include a resume in your application package, it would not be considered a substitute for the SOQ, which is a required document. Applications received without a SOQ will not be considered.

Training and Development assignments may be considered based on the availability of eligible candidates and are subject to approval by the Hiring Authority prior to appointment. Training and Development assignments are temporary in nature and shall not exceed twenty-four (24) months.
Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview, but they must provide proof of residence in California prior to being eligible for an appointment.
Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

The SESC is subject to 24-hour on call in the event of an emergency and must be able to respond to a disaster assignment on short notice. The SESC may be required to travel and participate in disaster-related work, work overtime and potentially work in austere conditions for prolonged periods of time. In addition, the SESC must be willing to monitor a cellular device and respond to electronic mail and phone calls 24/7 including holidays, during a disaster situation. This position is required to work M-F, 8am to 5pm.

- Perform both independently and in a cooperative team environment
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritize assignments and work well under pressure to meet quick deadlines
- Possess excellent customer service skills
- Be able to work remotely and in an office environment
- Have excellent attendance
- Be willing to deploy for emergency activations and work in austere conditions for extended period of time
