The Technology Business Management Division (TBMD) at the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) is seeking a skilled and motivated Information Technology Specialist II (IT Spec II), Senior Data Modeler to join our team and play a pivotal role in designing, optimizing, and maintaining our data architecture to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and scalability. The Senior Data Modeler will work with stakeholders both in Information Technology Services Branch (ITSB) and in the business areas.

As a Senior Data Modeler, you will develop conceptual, clear physical data models that represent the organization's data requirements and business processes. You will collaborate with database administrators, developers, and stakeholders to implement and optimize database solutions based on the defined models. You will ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data by implementing data validation rules, integrity constraints, and quality assurance processes. This role requires a keen eye for data integrity, excellent technical skills, and a passion for turning data into actionable insights.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate: Five years of experience with data modeling, database design, and database development, with a proven track record of designing and implementing complex data models in enterprise environments.
Proficient in using the Erwin Data Modeler tool.
Adept in Structured Query Language (SQL) for data manipulation and query optimization.
Ability to evaluate complex datasets, identify patterns and trends, and derive actionable insights to inform data modeling decisions and business strategies.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and facilitate productive discussions around data modeling requirements and solutions.
Willingness to stay updated with emerging and technologies, trends, and best practices in data modeling, database management, and data analytics. Adaptability to evolving business needs and technological advancements is essential.
