Great opportunity for a full-time SENIOR BIOLOGICAL TECHNICIAN at our Fish Ecology Lab in Portland, Oregon. In this critical position, you will lead field crews in stream habitat surveys, fish sampling, develop sampling protocols and be responsible for data management. HOW TO APPLY: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead and/or assist field crews on multiple projects, including training and delegating to permanent and seasonal Technicians to support the project work and data collection Perform hands on field work, which may include stream habitat surveys, snorkel surveys, electrofishing, netting, fish tagging and trapping, wetlands, and forestry. Manage, perform QA/QC, and summarize data using excel, GIS, R, and other software packages Manage field logistics, including equipment purchasing and maintenance, gear organization for field hitches of three to twelve days, and coordinating scheduling, lodging, and travel for field work Conduct literature reviews to independently learn and understand ongoing projects and to support various other projects Manage field sampling permitting Perform other duties as assigned CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Fisheries Science and Stream Habitat Expertise : Demonstrated ability to work alone and as part of a team collecting, recording, and summarizing high-quality stream habitat, topographic, and restoration monitoring data. Knowledge and experience in the identification of salmon and other stream fishes in Pacific Northwest streams. Field Crew Leadership : Experience leading and training field crews in remote settings. Demonstrated organizational skills to build and track a field schedule to ensure work is completed in a timely and within budget manner. Team Leadership Skills : Treats all team members with respect and professionalism. Desire to lead by example, by setting a high bar for personal performance. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with team members and mentor and guide other Technicians. Science-Business balance : Expertise in and passion about science, natural resources, and resolving complex fishery problems. Understand demands of consulting, including working under deadline and business functions, to help CFS continue to run as a profitable business. EDUCATION / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Fisheries, Forestry, Biology, or an equivalent science field and 2 years of related professional experience Proficient with Excel and Word DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Fisheries, Forestry, Biology, or an equivalent science field Experience sampling in reservoirs Experience or certification in wetlands Experience sampling freshwater mussels and macroinvertebrates Experience operating boats in rivers (e.g., rafts, kayaks) Project Management Certification ABOUT CRAMER FISH SCIENCES: We are a fisheries research consulting firm serving throughout the Pacific States and Idaho. COMPENSATION: $25/hour - $29/hour (depending upon experience). 401 (k) has a 3% match and full vesting after one year. The annual cash bonus has a 3% target. Benefit package includes: medical, dental, vision, basic life, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, employee assistance programs, PTO, paid company holidays, and other various voluntary benefits. ESOP: CFS is a 100% employee-owned company. Our employee stock option plan (ESOP) is a qualified defined contribution plan. Our target ESOP contribution is 5%. Eligibility is after one year of service with an entry date of Jan 1 or July 1.
