At Ports America, the Senior Accountant is responsible for all accounting activities for companies contained in the Gulf business unit. This includes both routine and unusual transactions, preparation of journal entries, all monthly accruals, monthly financial statement preparation including balance sheet and income statement, account reconciliations, and other standard accounting/record keeping responsibilities. Essential Duties: Prepares supporting documents for and posts routine and recurring journal entries, accounting transactions and activities for monthly GL closings. Prepares monthly financial statements, comparing current periods to prior periods, budgets, and forecasts, with appropriate analysis to support external and internal audits. Works with operating staff and other departments to make accruals and maintain recurring and reversing entries. Accurately and efficiently use the company's accounting systems. Works with multiple legal entities and is flexible in work assignments; able to work with multiple people and under moderate pressure. Prepares reliable and well documented monthly reconciliations for balance sheet accounts including timely resolution of differences. Review fluctuations in accounts and write clear, concise explanations for variances. Actively involved in supporting audit, financial reporting, NJ group office, and Gulf business unit requests. Works closely with field operations, supervisors, and peers to understand, communicate and address routine transactions, communicate exceptions, and help explain period-to-period variances. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting 2+ years accounting experience Preferred Qualifications: CPA and public accounting experience Solid understanding of GAAP, journal entry mechanics, and internal controls. Knowledge of financial statements, charts of accounts, journal entry preparation, complex accounting transactions and financial statement analysis. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Advanced Excel skills with ability to quickly learn Oracle ERP financial system Ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously on tight deadlines. Ability to adapt to and thrive within Ports America culture and values Working Conditions: Occasional travel to port operations. Office environment with flexibility and extended hours during reporting periods (typically month-end and year-end). Physical activity typical of office environment.
