Salary Range: $77,000 - $92,000 (Commensurate with Experience)
We are a leading animal protection organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of animals across the nation. Currently, we are seeking a Senior Accountant, Investment to join our dynamic Accounting Department. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in managing, monitoring, and reporting on our investment portfolio.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing the organization's investment portfolio and meticulously record all activity in the general ledger.
- Review mission-related securities and stock transactions.
- Analyze monthly investment portfolio spreadsheets for accuracy, reconciling investments between the general ledger and broker statements, and prepare necessary journal entries.
- Prepare roll forward for cash flow and contribute to financial statement audits.
- Compile and analyze schedules for organization and affiliate investments to support annual financial statement audits.
- Record and report on annuity transactions, ensuring compliance with state regulations.
- Prepare subcontract documentation for unique and alternate investments.
- Create quarterly reports on the investment portfolio for management.
- Prepare cash flow reporting for the investment portfolio and generate monthly investment reports as required for the Finance team to facilitate overall organization cash flow reporting.
- Maintain documentation and activity including gift stock reconciliation, miscellaneous stock redemption, fee payments, and backup tax information.
- Perform other duties or responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in investment/finance accounting, preferably in non-profit organizations or a related field.
- Strong mathematical skills.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting procedures, GAAP, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in investment instruments including stocks, bonds, offshore, oil and gas, derivatives, and private equity.
- Experience with modern accounting software preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; self-motivated, proactive, and high-energy.
- Excellent multitasking abilities and flexibility regarding workload and assignments.
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and dedication to delivering quality and timely outcomes.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Passion for animal protection issues is a plus.
