Job Title: SAFETY OFFICER Department: Administration Reports To: Safety Manager Rate of Pay: $21.00/hour Shifts: Full Time, Part-Time Year Round or Seasonal. Must work occasional and/or regular shifts on holidays and weekends. Schedule days and/or shift hours may change at anytime to accommodate coverage needs, which include but are not limited to regular shifts and special events. FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-exempt Prepared By: Safety Manager Prepared Date: 02.19.2020 Approved By: Director of Human Resources & Employee Development Approved Date: 11.01.2021 SUMMARY Provide a safe and secure environment for guests, owners, vendors, and employees by directing the implementation of sound safety, security and emergency methods and practices as dictated by Sundance policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Protect assets and prevent loss of Sundance property from fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
Act as a first responder to any emergency (i.e., medical, fire, accidents, domestic disturbances, building alarms, severe weather incidents, and any other incident that may require assistance) and coordinate with additional resources (law enforcement, fire department, UDOT) as needed.
Respond to medical needs of guests and employees, and complete the appropriate reports.
Lead, direct, and support others during times of urgency or emergency in the absence of the Safety Manager or Safety Supervisor.
If currently certified as a Basic EMT for the state of Utah, provide First Aid or Basic Life Support to Sundance employees, guests.
Call 911 in case of medical emergency, fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
Ensure OSHA reportable injuries are communicated in a timely manner.
Document employee injuries and level of care for workers' compensation insurance.
Follow protocols for post accident and reasonable suspicion drug testing.
Record data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of equipment, and reports to appropriate members of management.
Access control of Sundance property for employees and guests.
Permit authorized persons to enter property.
Warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, sledding, or carrying forbidden articles, and detain, or expel persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.
Escort employees to the safe during times of deposit, and escort employees to parking area upon request.
Assist guests and employees locked out of their vehicle.
Provide after-hours lodging check-ins and respond to guest requests and maintenance calls to the Sundance standard.
Communicate maintenance emergencies immediately to Director of Facilities and/or Maintenance Manager.
Regulate pedestrian traffic on property to maintain orderly flow and restrict access to areas during private functions and other times as directed.
Provide or contract security officers for guests, owners, employees, and special events.
Control inventory of transferable assets i.e. radios, pagers, cell phones, building and vehicle keys.
Conduct regulary walk through of operations to prevent accidents and ensure safety protocols are in compliance.
Patrol buildings and grounds of establishment periodically, docks, lodging areas, vacant rooms, or work sites.
Examine doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are locked and secure.
Watch for and report irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, doors and windows left unlocked.
Observe staff and guests to guard against theft of company property.
Document all guest and employee incidents such as theft, injury, complaints, and disturbances.Investigate root causes of accidents to Sundance standard.
Keep all information obtained in any format (verbal, electronic, paper and all others) concerning private or confidential issues unrevealed and unreleased in accordance with confidentiality agreements, policies, and procedures.
Set thermostatic controls to maintain specified temperature in buildings or storage rooms.
Administer, control and organize lost and found items.Assist guests in retrieving lost items and document return.
Fuel and clean the Safety Truck and Polaris vehicles as needed. De-ice walkways when needed.
Use two-way radios, cell phones, landline phones, email, and other forms of electronic and non-electronic communication.
Adhere to the no idling policy while using company vehicles.
Share Sundance's story of land preservation and environmental commitment with employees and guests as appropriate.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT Support and participate in environmental programs associated with position: minimizing waste, recycling, energy conservation, purchase and use of sustainable products, education on environmental ethic, support vendors with similar ethic, decrease pollution levels, minimize the use of toxic chemicals, restore wild life habitats, carpool with co-workers to minimize carbon emissions. All employees are invited to participate in environmental or Sundance Preserve sponsored events.
DRESS CODE Sundance recognizes the impact that our image has on the guest's impression of the resort and the perception of out ability to provide professional service to our clientele. In order to best promote a positive, professional image that meets Sundance guest's expectations, employees are required to dress in a professional, conservative fashion that is appropriate for their area. Please use the following as a minimum standard:
SAFETY OFFICER UNIFORM GUIDELINES In serving and responding to our guest's needs, we are concerned about the impression we create by our personal appearance. When you arrive for work you need to be in uniform and within Sundance grooming standards (for more detail on Sundance grooming and hygiene standards refer to your employee manual, page 13). Be sure to know and follow these standards and guidelines, they will be enforced. You will receive several uniform articles. You are responsible for keeping the items clean and in good repair.
Shirt and Jacket: Wear the issued 5.11 Safety Officer Dark Navy shirts. The shirt should be clean and tucked into your pants. During cold weather wear one of the available 5.11 high-visibility parkas (fleece liner/shell). Additional layers may be worn as long as the Sundance jacket can be worn on top. Non Sundance brand affiliated clothing is not approved to wear on duty.
Name Tag: Wear Sundance name tag where visible to our guests. Let manager know if it is lost they will supply a replacement.
Pants and Belt: Wear the issued 5.11 Safety Officer Charcoal pants. Pants should be clean without any holes or rips. Wear a black or brown belt to carry a radio and other equipment.
Boots : Acceptable foot wear will be in the form of black or brown boots or high top leather shoes; appropriate cold weather/mountain foot wear is also acceptable. Please see your manager if you are unsure. All foot wear will be kept in good condition, free of cracks and holes with maintained soles. All foot wear will be clean and look presentable.
High-visibility Vest: There are two of these located in the Safety vehicle. It is mandatory that you wear these or the available parka/shell when you are out in the road working, for example, clearing debris, towing cars, or doing traffic control. We have these for the safety of our officers.
Additional: Carry the following items at all times during your shift:
Resort Master Keys, Radio (carried on your belt and on the Safety Channel with the volume up), Fire Pager (carried on your belt), Safety Office Cell Phone, Flashlight (if you are working at night), Pen and Notepad.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE An Associate's Degree or a Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
1 to 2 years experience in guest services, report writing, investigative procedures and crowd control preferred.
1 to 2 years of experience in any other related field.
TECHNICAL / COMPUTER SKILLS Proficiency in creating and using: spreadsheets, databases, word processing, Internet navigation, and e-mail.
Efficiency in using smart cell phones for texting, photos, responding to correspondence etc. Use of 2-way radio.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Current certification as a Utah State Basic (EMT) Emergency Medical Technician through the Utah Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services is preferred, but not required. Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications Required. Certified in any of the following: Structure Firefighter I, Structure Firefighter II, Wildland Fire Fighter I or Wildland Fire Fighter II, Security or Police Officers Standards and Training (POST) certifications.
Must possess a valid U.S. Drivers' License in good standing as determined by Sundance's Insurance Company guidelines.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical policies and procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of manager's, clients, customers and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
