PURPOSE OF POSITION The Safety and Emergency Response Coordinator creates and oversees the implementation of a strategic approach to School emergency response management, COOP plan, safety matter and other related concerns. The Safety and Emergency Response Coordinator will collaborate with the Board of Trustees and Head of School to update and implement an emergency response plan to increase safety to support the strategic direction of Navajo Preparatory School.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS A Bachelor's degree in Safety or related field, Master's degree preferred Five years' experience in technical safety planning, research, and management Proficient computer skills Professional organizational skills Excellent verbal, written communication, leadership, and customer service skills Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Previous experience in school settings is preferred Ability to make difficult decisions with composure and tact Ability to understand and execute complex projects Understanding of the Navajo Culture; ability to speak Navajo preferred Ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve the school's goals Navajo/Indian preference: The Navajo/Indian preference law shall apply in all aspects of the position.
EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION This is an exempt professional position based on 261 contract days. Supervised by the Head of School
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Become familiar with and commit to Navajo Prep's programs, goals, and financial needs Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage safety plans to tribal, state, federal, private, foundation and other sources Identify, define and develop funding sources to support existing and planned safety programs Performs research and finds potential solutions to safety concerns Performs safety audits and drills Supervises Security Officers Collaborates with the School Based Health Center Advises on safety and emergency response matters Monitors school surveillance camera systems and updates policy Conducts contact tracing during pandemic and other COVID compliance duties as necessary Maintains current records in databases including tracking and reporting Monitor and evaluate all activities to ensure that school goals are being achieved Provides supervision to the departments being over seen and professional development Manages school reputation and influence opinion and behavior by using all forms of media and communication Oversee student department safety response activities and coordinate testing Write and distribute press releases, public notices and send them directly to journalists and social media outlets as required Create and execute special events designed for public outreach and media relations Conduct research about gaps in safety and security needs Develop additional resources through business contacts and personal networks Assists with public relations during any crisis event Assists with social media promotions as necessary Foster an understanding of safety within the organization Coordinate the design, printing and distribution of marketing and communication materials for safety efforts Submits reports to DODE, BIE, and OSHA as necessary Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and goals of the School Host safety meetings and events Organize facilities and hosts professional development Conduct pre and post event evaluations and report on outcomes Attend meetings as assigned by the Head of School. Serve as a key member of the school leadership team for planning, implementation and evaluation of programs. Ability to remain confidential Performs other duties as may be assigned or delegated by the Head of School. EVALUATION Will be evaluated in accordance with the Navajo Preparatory School Board, Inc. policies and procedures.
