SUMMARY: Obtains and/or stocks merchandise, totals bill, accepts payments, and makes change for customers using a computerized cash register system in retail store setting. The following duties are representative of the various responsibilities of the retail sales clerk position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ( Other duties may be assigned)
Stocks shelves, counters, or tables with merchandise. Sets up displays or arranges merchandise on counters or tables to promote sales. Check and organize merchandise. Obtains or receives merchandise selected by customer for checkout. Answers customer's questions concerning location, price, and use of merchandise. Determine price using discount schedule if necessary on merchandise for customers. Accepts payment and makes changes, wraps or bags merchandise for customers. Removes cash in register and puts it in a bank bag. Takes inventory of stock. May have responsibility in ordering merchandise. Clean store, dust merchandise on shelves, sweep floor, empty trash. Additional responsibilities in Department assigned. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Skills needed are keyboarding and ten-key by touch. Minimum words per minute on keyboard would be 30 wpm. Other equipment that will be used and available for use are multi-line telephone, fax, copy machine, credit card machine, and personal computer/software.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will stand on a concrete floor. Talking and hearing are required. The employee frequently is required to walk to get merchandise and reach with hands and arms to move and shelve merchandise. Also, one will use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may increase some if you go to the warehouse.
Farm chemicals and fertilizers are sold in sealed containers, but there is a noticeable odor at times.
Grain is a naturally dusty product. Since feed manufacturing means handling grain, grain dust can be an irritant to those with allergies. Because of dust particles, chemicals, insecticides and odors, those who suffer from allergies may find that Stillwater Milling Company is not an ideal place to work. Also, the wearing of contact lenses may be limited.
GENERAL COMMENTS: It is important for the Customer Service/Stock Clerk to present a positive image of Stillwater Milling Company and maintain a good relationship with the customer.
