About iBAM The University of Minnesota's Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism is an interdisciplinary team aimed at advancing research on the fundamental biology of aging. Our goal is to discover ways to therapeutically target aging, which will extend healthspan.
Primary responsibilities: Specific technical/bench-work research (60%):
Conduct investigations and experiments. Perform molecular biology and biochemistry research including preparing tissue lysates, nucleic acid isolation, qRT-PCR, Western blot and other assays. Tissue culture, histology and processing of human and mouse tissue samples for "omics" analysis Conduct background literature research on relevant topics including current methods and reagents Ability and willingness to learn complex genomic and proteomic experimental techniques Analyze data collected from experiments and work with research team members to prepare data, presentations and reports Keep detailed records of all experiments and procedures in laboratory notebooks, databases, spreadsheets, and web-based applications. Sample and Data Management (20%)
Clinical sample handling including receipt, preservation, storage and documentation of sample workflow Organizing data and images from multiple sources General laboratory management duties (10%):
Prepare media, enzymes, and solutions under sterile conditions Inventory updates, stock supplies and general laboratory organization Follow established biological, chemical and physical safety procedures and train new personnel Other duties as assigned (10%):
Help monitor and train undergraduate student workers. Requires the ability to work occasional weekend hours Qualifications Required Qualifications:
BA/BS and 1 year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience to equal 5 years Excellent computer and organizational skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office The candidate must have strong problem-solving skills, an ability to multitask and to work independently Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with molecular biology techniques, tissue culture work, histology, and/or imaging techniques Experience in managing data sets/database management Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills; comfort in working in a team About University of Minnesota Twin Cities
