Position Description
The Research Investigator supports key pre-clinical research activities by designingand utilizing various in vitro techniques that may help uncover themechanistic basis and/or identify new targets for drug design related toaddiction and chronic pain. The candidate will work independently and withinteams to design/implement cell-based experimental systems aimed at the elucidationof cellular signal transduction pathways, engagement and regulation of neuronalcircuitry, and experimental drug-related structure-activity relationships. The candidate will also contribute topreparation of documents including grant submissions, publications, patents,and study reports. The candidate will often be a key contributor andpossible leader of drug discovery programs/projects while contributing to (andoverseeing) designs or new/modified experimental procedures or technologies asneeded or appropriate. The candidate will accomplish their results by conductinghands-on laboratory experiments, as well as through productive collaborationswith other scientists and direct reports within, and external to the NCWR. The candidate may suggest and evaluate newtarget areas for research that align with the missions and goals of the NCWR. Non-scientificaccountabilities may include but are not limited to performance management,budgets, and developing and directing a talent skill-base and technology-basethat is aligned with NCWR objectives and drives the organizational structurewithin areas of responsibility.
The position reports to the Associate Director of Neuroscience for the NCWR. The candidate may serve ad hoc on scientific leadership teams, contributing to research priorities, goals, milestones, and resource use.

Oklahoma State University Center for HealthSciences was founded in 1972 as the Oklahoma College of Osteopathic Medicineand Surgery and became a branch institution of Oklahoma State University in1988. In 2017 the NCWR was publiclylaunched and in 2019 was the recipient of nearly $200M from the legal settlementbetween the state of Oklahoma and Purdue Pharma. In 2022, the Oklahoma legislature awarded anARPA grant of $50M for the NCWR to build a pharmaceutical research facility indowntown Tulsa, which is in progress. These funds are being leveraged to advance the science of addiction andpain, so that NCWR researchers and clinicians can rapidly translate new treatmentmodalities to patient care. To further acceleratethe mission, the NCWR formed a strategic research partnership with the Centerof Excellence for Addiction Studies at the University of Arizona, where there arealready joint research projects underway. In the Tulsa region, the NCWR also hopes to recruit new biotech industryas collaborators and at least two new companies have already formed here.

- Ph.D. in a field related to biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology or related field, or equivalent experience
- 2 years of post-Ph.D. experience in academic, industrial, or related field with a sustained productivity

- Conducted and published novel results from their own research activities 
- Strong in vitro pharmacology background with a passion for extending their knowledge into overt-lapping drug discovery disciplines
- Experience in pain research or the neurology of substance use disorders
- A history of scientific productivity and prior experience in drug discovery methods
