Kansas City University's Research Lab is seeking a Research Associate to assist in the planning of research projects, collect and analyze data, collaborate in the design of protocols and perform a variety of laboratory procedures. The successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of Kansas City University by ensuring high-quality outcomes in research endeavors. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provide support and coordinate lab activities for graduate and medical students' research projectsPrepare routine laboratory reagents and maintain lab equipment and suppliesMaintain accurate and complete records of lab supplies and equipmentPerform Tissue Culture using aseptic techniques and conduct in vivo animal studiesPerform immunological experiments, biochemical procedures, flow cytometric analysis, and imaging using advanced microscopy techniquesInvestigate gene expression procedures including real-time PCRAssist in communicating experimental work and refining new techniquesCollect, analyze, and summarize data using paper and computerized methodsContribute to manuscripts, abstracts, and publications, and present results/findings at various venues and eventsTrack data, perform data entry for reports, and maintain records of methods usedPrepare bibliographies and abstracts for publications and present results/findings at team and departmental meetingsPerform all work in accordance with university regulations and policiesPerform administrative duties including preparing and assisting with IRB, IBC, and IACUC documentation or similar protocol submissionsWork with environmental health and safety to maintain compliance and a safe lab environmentSupport faculty research projects through implementing experimental design, analyzing data, conducting literature searches, writing manuscripts, and preparing postersManage the research laboratory or office, including coordinating research students and managing research equipment Supportive Functions: Other administrative tasks (i.e., filing, preparing documentation)Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systemsActively participate in team and University meetings Qualifications Master's degree or bachelor's degree plus 1-2 years equivalent experience3+ years' experience working in biomedical research laboratory is preferredAbility to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students, prioritizing team's goalsDetail-oriented, ensuring that all tasks are completed with care and precisionExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both our research team and external personnelAbility to analyze a situation and exercise good judgment and discretion as appropriateExperience of working with laboratory animals is preferredStrong working knowledge of research and experimental protocolsProficiency in basic computer applications, ability to leverage technology to enhance productivity and efficiency Physical Requirements: Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other office equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overheadAbility to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group settingAbility to continuously operate a personal computer for extended periods of time (4 or more hours) Equal Opportunity Employer
