The Department of Pharmacy Practice & Science is seeking a Research Associate to support a funded research project assessing real-world chemotherapy use in breast cancer patients with and without obesity.
This is a specified-term appointment at 100% effort for 3 years. After 3 years, the specified-term appointment may be eligible for renewal dependent on funding.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Research
Perform research activities in a specialized area. Research literature as requested. Adapt and perform protocols from the literature. Critically review literature to further the research and develop new hypotheses in conjunction with other investigators.
* Assist in health services and outcomes research applying quantitative and computational methodologies on observational data.
* Work with the PI and study team to execute the study protocol.
Collect, Analyze and Summarize Data; Prepare Reports; Contribute to Manuscripts, Publications
May perform statistical analysis of data and qualitative analysis. Assist in the design of manuals, questionnaires, and forms. Assist in preparing publications and presentations. Contribute to the technical writing of papers, manuscripts, grant applications and published materials as evidenced by documented recognition. Present results/findings at team and departmental meetings; may present at local and national meetings.
* Collect and manage the medical ontologies, terminologies and vocabulary/codes used to define study variables.
* Define and implement algorithms to measure concepts from the study data.
* Develop and execute programs to process, clean and transform electronic health records (EHR)-based data stored in a relational database.
* Generate data and perform statistical modeling and tests.
* Maintain documentation for version control and record keeping.
* Present findings at lab meetings.
* Prepare materials for reports, presentations, and publications.

Education Requirement
* Bachelor's degree in health services research, epidemiology, health economics, biostatistics, health informatics, or a similar type of field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Experience Required
* Minimum 2 years of experience conducting research in health services, health outcomes or a related field, specifically in developing and executing protocols on observational data.
* Minimum 2 years of experience with statistical analysis and data visualization tools.
* Strong programing skills using tools such as R, SQL, python, SAS, or other similar languages.
* Experience working with medical and billing coding systems such as ICD, RxCUI, LOINC, NDC, HCPCS, CPT, etc.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
* Effective communication (written and verbal) skills.
Desirable Qualifications
* Master's degree in health services research, epidemiology, health economics, biostatistics, health informatics, or a similar type of field.
* Minimum 2 years of experience programming and conducting computational and statistical analyses on large administrative claims data, electronic health records-based databases in PCORnet Common Data Model (CDM), tumor registry data, and/or clinic notes.
* Experience working within cloud-based and high-performance computing environments such as AWS, Snowflake, etc. and with project management software such as Gitlab.
* Experience with machine learning methodologies such as applied predictive modeling and NLP techniques, including text data preprocessing and sentiment analysis.
* Experience conducting cancer research and training in and/or knowledge of cytotoxic chemotherapy treatments and their associated toxicities.
* Previous scientific publications or demonstrated experience in scientific writing.
