Job DescriptionCandidates are sought for a Research Associate affiliated with the Center for Marine Autonomy and Robotics at Virginia Tech (https://marinerobotics.centers.vt.edu/). This appointment is for one year with extension to multiple years expected, but subject to availability of funds and performance evaluation. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in the design, fabrication, and deployment of a wide variety of marine robotic systems.Responsibilities include:- Design, fabrication, and testing of electronic systems for autonomous underwater vehicles and other marine robotic systems- Development of software for autonomous underwater vehicles and other marine robotic systems- Development of navigation algorithms and navigation systems for small autonomous underwater vehicles- Participate in systems integration of all subsystems of small autonomous underwater vehicles and other marine robotic systems- Provide leadership in the development and execution of a supporting experimental test program- Interact daily with a diverse team that includes members from industry, academia, and government- Communicate with external research sponsors- Prepare technical reports and peer-reviewed academic papersRequired Qualifications- Earned M.S. degree in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline.- Experience designing electronic subsystems for small autonomous underwater vehicles- Experience developing software for autonomous underwater vehicles using C++ and the Autonomy Vehicle Library.- Experience developing navigation systems for small autonomous underwater vehicles.- Experience deploying small autonomous underwater vehicles in the field.Preferred Qualifications- Experience with battery management systemsAppointment TypeRestrictedSalary InformationCommensurate with ExperienceReview Date02/28/2024Additional InformationThe successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.About Virginia TechDedicated to its motto,Ut Prosim(That I May Serve), Virginia Tech pushes the boundaries of knowledge by taking a hands-on, transdisciplinary approach to preparing scholars to be leaders and problem-solvers.
