Under the direction of the Director of Sustainable Materials Management, this position is responsible for leading the daily activities pertaining to the summer Curbside Recycling Education Program that the Sustainable Materials Management Division of the Newton Department of Public Works is undertaking in Summer 2024.
This position start and end dates are flexible with the earliest start date in early May and latest end date being October 25, 2023. Working hours are 6:30am-10:30am, and the number of days per week is flexible, however applicants must be available to work on Fridays. There is no work on days when it is raining. Minimum commitment of 12 weeks required.
Description of Job Duties
Plan neighborhood routes in advance and walk daily neighborhood routes with provided supplies Assemble daily supplies in advance Lead crews of volunteers on daily routes to apply educational decals to all residential recycling carts on routes Interact and educate residents as needed on daily neighborhood routes Train new volunteers on standard operating procedures Communicate route information to volunteer crews Perform curbside recycling cart inspections and track inspection data Assist with other program tasks as needed
Desired Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent desirable. Must have the ability to follow oral and written instruction. Valid Massachusetts Class-D driver's license required. Must be able to walk for up to 3 hours at a time and be able to complete administrative tasks in an efficient and effective manner with strong attention to detail.
