LATA is currently searching for a Quality Assurance Specialist for the project in Carlsbad, New Mexico. This is a government contract to the US Department of Energy (DOE) supporting the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP). The WIPP Environmental Compliance section of LATA provides environmental regulatory technical expertise on all facets of Environmental Management Systems at the WIPP facility. Located at the Carlsbad Environmental Monitoring and Research Center, WIPP Laboratories are a part of LATA, mandated to perform the radiochemical analyses of the environmental and bioassay samples provided by various departments/clients within the WIPP Site.
• Radiological Source Custodian duties:
Maintain accurate inventory and paperwork for radioactive sources and standards, perform biannual radiological inventory, work with laboratory management and procurement to purchase new sources and standards, disposal of expired/depleted sources and standards.
• Operation of the WIPP site counting room:
Operation of gas proportional counter instruments, counting/screening of samples for various clients, custody/transportation of samples between the WIPP site and CEMRC, data reporting, assembly of data packages for clients.
• Administration of WIPP Labs controlled software and databases:
Administer user accounts/login, maintain controlled software paperwork up to date, be actively involved in the implementation of a new Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Radiochemistry laboratory:
Preparation of radioactive standard working solutions, certification of radioactive standards, radioactive waste coordinator.
• Maintain good standing in all training qualifications for WIPP, LATA, and SIMCO.
• Other duties as assigned to support the WIPP Laboratories mission.
• Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, technology, Engineering, Mathematics) related major with 2-4 years of laboratory experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
• Detail oriented.
• Must be highly motivated and be able to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Familiarity with quality assurance and quality control requirements.
• Familiarity with the WIPP project and/or working with Federal regulators a plus.
• Must be able to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
