Job Overview:
The Food Safety and Internal Auditing Specialist at GBC Food Services, LLC, plays a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of food safety and compliance with all relevant regulations and internal policies. This position is responsible for conducting regular food safety audits, risk assessments, and ensuring continuous improvement in food handling, storage, and preparation processes. The Specialist will also be involved in developing and implementing food safety training programs for staff to ensure compliance with state, federal, and international food safety standards.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None directly; however, the role involves leading cross-departmental initiatives and providing training and guidance to staff and franchisees regarding food safety practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Update and implement QA programs to onboard new business.
Conduct internal audits of all food-related operations to ensure compliance with legal and company standards.
Develop, implement, and review food safety policies and procedures.
Identify areas of food safety risk and develop mitigation strategies.
Lead the preparation for and management of external regulatory inspections and audits.
Analyze audit data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Deliver food safety training sessions to staff across various departments.
Work closely with the operations and quality assurance teams to implement food safety improvements.
Stay updated with the latest food safety regulations and best practices.
Competencies:
Thorough understanding of food safety regulations and standards (e.g., FDA, HACCP, SQF).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and training skills.
Ability to work independently and make well-informed decisions.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Proven experience in conducting food safety audits and risk assessments.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and food safety management software.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field required.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a food safety role, preferably with experience in conducting internal audits.
Preferred: ServSafe, HACCP, CP-FS or Related certifications.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with company standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds at times.
Work Environment:
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
The position also requires visits to various company sites, including kitchens and storage facilities, where the environment may vary.
