Oregon League of Conservation Voters Job Announcement: Public Lands Manager - Protect the Owyhee Campaign The Oregon League of Conservation Voters (OLCV) is the political voice of Oregon's environmental community. OLCV is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that passes laws to protect our natural legacy, elects pro-environment candidates, and holds our elected officials accountable. OLCV is committed to creating a culture of justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion in our organization and outward. We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as our Public Lands Manager.
Job description: The Public Lands Manager is responsible for recruiting, engaging, mobilizing, and tracking OLCV members and volunteers to build political power for the environment and climate action in Oregon, especially to achieve the goal of permanent protection for the Owyhee Canyonlands. In addition, the Public Lands Manager will work closely with the Political & Organizing Director on creating and executing programs/plans that engage and mobilize OLCV volunteers to achieve political and legislative goals of OLCV's Protect the Owyhee Campaign. The work includes recruiting new and more diverse members, organizing and attending local events, and volunteer recruitment and mobilization for OLCV's Protect the Owyhee Campaign. The core of this job is community organizing, and most of the work will take place on the phone and in the field.
Core responsibilities include: ? With direction and support from OLCV Political & Organizing Director and Owyhee National Monument Coalition (NMC) Manager, develop a plan for OLCV member engagement including, but not limited to:
Recruiting OLCV members to engage in Protect the Owyhee Campaign through tactics such as LTEs, op-eds, emails, social media actions, and other written and/or digital actions Planning and managing community engagement with OLCV's Owyhee 3D art piece Supporting, recruiting for, and attending rallies, lobby days, and other in-person community events and tactics ? With direction from Owyhee NMC, conduct outreach and organize support letters from state and local elected officials, businesses, organizations, etc
? Work in partnership with Owyhee NMC to execute campaign strategy and achieve campaign goals
? Track progress toward goals, and maintain regular communication with Protect the Owyhee Campaign funders
Minimum Qualifications: ? 1-4 years experience working on electoral, issue campaign, or public education campaign
? Experience with data tracking, goal setting, and strong attention to details
? Excellent one-on-one communication skills and a passion for interacting with people
? Strong computer skills, including experience with spreadsheets and databases (e.g. VAN, EveryAction)
Some other qualities and skills we appreciate: ? Experience recruiting, training, and managing volunteers
? A demonstrated interest in environmental issues, especially on conservation and/or climate change
? Knowledge of environmental issues and history in Oregon, especially around conservation efforts
? Familiarity with communities, political dynamics, and culture across Oregon
Duration: April 1, 2024 through December 31, 2024. This is a full-time short-term position and requires some evenings and weekends. There is not a guarantee for permanent hire once the position is completed, however occasional job opportunities do open up and Public Lands Manager is eligible and encouraged to apply.
Location: Based in Portland with some travel required across Oregon. Potential candidates must have transportation & ability to travel. OLCV staff can work remotely or in the office.
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $50,000-55,000/year along with holiday pay, PTO, retirement, and health/dental/vision benefits.
