Who We Are:
System Administration, which also houses the Office of the President, is located in the uptown neighborhood of Denver with a few smaller offices located on the campuses. Many of our departments support the educational and research missions of the four University of Colorado campuses, but System Administration is not considered a campus. Employee Services : Employee Services provides the CU community with employment services from recruitment to retirement. This office provides technical expertise while administering benefits, professional development, payroll, individual tax management, and strategic HR programs. The functional areas of Employee Services include Payroll, Technologies, Benefits, Retirement, Financial Education, Learning and Development, International Tax and Human Resources. Position Summary:
The Project Manager will incorporate and execute project and change management standard processes and activities within the University of Colorado's (CU) Employee Services (ES) department. Located in Denver, Employee Services operates within CU System Administration, which brings together administrative departments and service centers that provide guidance and services to all of CU's campuses: CU Boulder, CU Colorado Springs, CU Denver and CU Anschutz Medical Campus. The Employee Services department provides centralized payroll, benefits and retirement administration, professional development, international tax services, and wellness programs for CU's nearly 37,000 employees, as well as collaborative HR services for System Administration's employees.
This position will provide project management support including, but not limited to: project plan development, requirements gathering, timeline creation and implementation, risk analysis with corresponding mitigation plans, training and communication plan development and execution, in alignment with Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) methodology. The expectation will be that the project manager will facilitate, in partnership with ES leadership and with guidance, as needed, from the Senior Project and Portfolio Manager, coordination between project needs and ES resources. The individual will assess past, current, and upcoming tasks immediately addressing issues with the appropriate manager. The Project Manager will work independently on project support and initiatives, while bringing out of scope project related questions or concerns to the Senior Project and Portfolio Manager.
It is the general nature of higher-ed projects to require flexibility with changes in scope, resources, and/or timing. This individual must be highly organized and have the ability to be confidently self-directed, a fast learner, able to respond well to changing environments and priorities. This position will take independent judgement on most tasks related to project management, as well as have a collaborative demeanor to achieve team goals and objectives. The Project Manager will need to have strong and effective communication skills to build interpersonal relationships, negotiation and problem-solving skills. The Project Manager role is customer-facing and requires effective collaboration skills with UIS IT partners, our campus constituents and subject matter experts across all four of CU's campuses.
A successful candidate will have a positive demeanor, a strong interest in project management and a desire to aid CU in improved effectiveness and efficiency of delivered services offered by the Employee Services department.
This position reports to the Senior Project and Portfolio Manager and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff system. Where You Will Work:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or equivalent professional experience (professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis) One (1) year of experience related to project management and supporting documented project management methodology, which includes establishing project tasks/dependencies/deadlines, resource management, risk management, requirement gathering, hold project team meetings, and providing status updates. Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years of experience, as stated above. Experience utilizing formal project management methodology A professional project management certification (PMP, PMI-ACP, CAPM) Experience working within Higher Education Experience in utilizing Project Management tools such as Team Dynamix, MS Project or similar. Experience with IT, HR, Payroll or Benefits-related projects Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To be successful in this position, candidates will need the following: Knowledge of project and change management processes, principles, and standard methodologies on establishing project charters, schedules, constraints, risks, resources, and partner responsibilities Knowledge of the CU environment, including general department structures, business functions, reporting relationships, and operational processes and procedures Oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and details clearly Ability to work with project sponsors to develop project charters, assuring a shared understanding of scope, resources, objectives, risks and measures of success Analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to examine data, trends and past projects to produce results Organizational skills, including the ability to set and meet goals and coordinate meetings, create schedules, organize, and facilitate meetings, and make decisions Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, etc.) and project management tracking software Ability to work in a close team effort with ongoing collaboration among team members and various interconnecting projects and project managers, including team members in technical and non-technical fields Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Must be comfortable participating in the decision process within a project team framework Must be a confident self-starter who possesses tenacity, curiosity and a penchant for detail Ability to recognize and solve problems quickly Ability to demonstrate flexibility and professionalism in applying the correct project methodology to assigned projects while maintaining standards required by Employee Services How to Apply:
