As a Project Accountant in Moda's Accounting department, you will help Accounting management tackle various projects and initiatives that are often non-recurring in nature. Additionally, you will have certain parts of the monthly and quarterly close process assigned to you, which will help maintain a connection to the standard close process and the rest of the financial accounting and finance teams. You will work to develop a knowledge of all of Moda's entities so that there is a foundation to more easily build upon when accounting projects arise. This role is well suited for someone with a strong accounting background who is looking for an individual contributor role with frequent team interaction and exposure to management, that is heavy in project-based work. This role will require a flexible mindset with a team-first attitude, as this role will also be a resource that assists in various areas across the financial accounting and FP&A teams when needs arise. This is a Hybrid PST position. We are only offering this position to candidates living in or willing to relocate to OR or WA.

Examples of what this work would entail include: documentation of accounting processes or end-to-end business processes; assessment and improvement / automation of various accounting reports; internal controls development and execution; regulatory compliance research and analysis; account reconciliation troubleshooting and improvements, etc. Perform assigned areas of monthly close process. This may involve journal entry preparation, the preparation of various accompanying analyses, etc. Be a contributor to Moda's Model Audit Rule (MAR) compliance. This entails both preparing monthly controls as well as working with other stakeholders within the Company as to MAR compliance (including but not limited to review of process narratives, facilitation of control testing with Internal Audit, etc.) Perform assigned areas of quarterly financial reporting. Aid in various income tax related matters. Examples of what this work would entail include: preparing PBCs for the Company's tax return and provision work, corresponding with the Company's tax preparers as to various filing matters, and help preparing annual tax provision entries and associated reconciliations. Ability to perform technical research as required and apply researched topics to Moda's entities. Ability to write technical accounting memos complete with ASC or SSAP research, T-Accounts, JEs, etc. Ability to learn financial accounting / financial reporting intricacies of Moda's regulated entities. This will allow for becoming a resource on the GL team for assessing questions / comments from State regulators and auditors. Cross train to learn various accounting roles on GL team in order to backfill specific functions for other team members' periodic times out of office (consolidation, executive reporting, etc.). Work with other departments as necessary to ensure financial statements or analyses are complete and accurate; work to understand and/or test the completeness and accuracy of key sources of data (key reports, key spreadsheets, etc.). Independently prepare various schedules, including standalone entity financial statements, in support of the annual external audit, when assigned. Stay informed of current accounting issues, including both GAAP and SAP. Demonstrate continuous effort to exhibit ownership over key responsibilities, improve operations, and streamline work processes to create efficiencies. Demonstrate high levels of independent ownership and task management. Perform other duties or projects as assigned. Required Skills: Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance; Accounting preferred. 2+ years public accounting or GL accounting experience; CPA preferred but not required. Strong understanding of accounting concepts and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Understanding of Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) preferred. Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including understanding of T-Accounts, and ability to work through difficult accounting scenarios. Experience with various forms of financial reporting, including preparation of financials, footnotes and both electronic and hard copy tie outs. Ability to work collaboratively as a group as well as drive and maintain individual ownership. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work well under pressure to meet strict deadlines, as well as ability to maintain flexibility to shift priorities and reprioritize. Strong time-management and organization skills; ability to move multiple work streams forward at once and actively prioritize projects. Proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Use of pivot tables, vlookups, and other moderately difficult Excel functions required. Willingness to work additional hours when necessary. Ability to maintain confidentiality and project a professional business image with both internal and external parties.
