Program Manager II

in the

Information Technology

Department! In this role, you'll serve as a technical portfolio manager overseeing project management staff. You will be responsible for establishing, implementing and maintaining an enterprise IT portfolio management program to ensure that IT projects and programs are planned and delivered according to business unit demands and priority. The Program Manager II will collaborate with the IT Director/CIO, other IT leads and City department heads (and/or their delegates) to provide the vision and leadership necessary to plan and execute strategic programs and tactical projects.

A typical way of gaining the knowledge and skills for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university with major coursework in business, public administration, or a related field and five (5) years in the development and implementation of programs.
Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, the incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record. Must be able to attend evening and weekend meetings.

In addition to the qualifications above, the ideal candidate will be a thought leader, a consensus builder, and an integrator of people and processes. While the Program Manager II is the leader of the IT portfolio, they must also be able to coordinate disparate drivers, constraints and personalities while maintaining objectivity and a strong understanding that portfolio management is just one of the critical, integrated functions within IT.
