Position Summary

The Georgia Sensory Assistance Project ( GSAP ) Deafblind Education Specialist will: provide technical assistance in the form of consultation and coaching to educational teams and families of children with dual sensory loss via onsite and distance visits, provide follow-up information about best-practice teaching strategies, create learning materials needed for student, perform regular check-ins with school team members, and collect data on progress toward consultation outcomes and child change. The

GSAP

Education Specialist will collaborate with team members to develop and present information for conferences, workshops, and trainings and will also assist team with other project initiatives as needed, including but not limited to: organizing and carrying out family events; networking with state leaders on systems-change activities; and promoting awareness to increase student identification and registration.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Experience in serving deafblind students, their school teams, and families
Experience in working as an itinerant/consultative teacher
Certifications: Visual Impairment, Deaf Education, Orientation & Mobility
Proficiency in braille, including Unified English Braille, Nemeth Code, and assistive technology specific to braille
Expertise in assistive technology solutions for deafblind students
