Professional Writing Consultant (Hiring two positions)
The Judith Anderson Herbert Writing Center seeks qualified applicants for the position of Professional Writing Consultant. The person in this position primarily assists graduate and undergraduate students in enhancing their written communication skills. During one-to-one appointments, the writing consultant uses a range of evidence-based pedagogical strategies to support students through the process of crafting coursework-related documents, proposals, application materials, and other types of written documents. The writing consultant also supports the Tutor Training Coordinator by serving as a mentor for new undergraduate and graduate tutors, leading tutor-training meetings and developing educational materials to support and assess the progress of new tutors. In addition, through collaborations with Herbert Writing Center staff, the consultant designs and leads events such as workshops and writing groups and develops web-based resources for undergraduate and graduate students that focus on specific genres, communication strategies, or tasks.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree plus two years experience working in a writing center required.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master's Degree
Three or more years working in a writing center
Degree concentration in rhetoric/composition, writing studies, or writing center studies.
Experience teaching professional/technical communication
Experience teaching basic writing or working with basic writers
Experience teaching or working with multilingual writers
Experience working with writers in STEM fields
Experience working with writers in the health professions
Experience with grant writing
Administrative experience in an academic setting.
