Position Summary Role is responsible for working directly with customers to create, maintain and improve the design of parts for sheet metal fabricated components and assemblies. Position is responsible for the design and development of products that are manufacturing friendly. Using predefined data, the position must efficiently and accurately process engineering quotes, release and control the design of parts to ensure external, internal, and regulatory requirements are achieved. Position is responsible for project management, issue tracking and coordination of activities that lead to successful production startup, launch and ramp up. Position must continuously shorten the development cycle by engaging in upfront marketing activities and leading customer communications for technical concerns.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
Advances the standardization of engineering administrative functions, including bill of material development, EPICOR / CMS production systems, engineering documentation and processes, design output, verification and validation Analyze tolerances on parts, sub-assemblies, and top level assemblies for manufacturability and tooling design Manage multiple concurrent projects and project timelines Strong engineering technical skills to grasp, analyze and collaborate with the customers to create designs that achieve part function, performance and durability Participate on cross functional teams to address and resolve manufacturing problems and ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of productivity, methods, processes, and quality Identify, analyze and mitigate risk in the design process by setting controls that prevent and detect failures (i.e. DFMEA) Determine manufacturability of customer designs and review with internal experts Review product specifications and confirm unclear points with the customer Consider statutory and regulatory requirements, ROPS/FOPs, etc... Work directly with internal and external tooling suppliers to design fixtures capable of meeting dimensional requirements and productivity goals Conceptualize, model and draft part designs in Creo CAD software Seek support and appropriate help when risk cannot be managed by the engineering unit. Notify impacted groups early when issues spread outside the unit or have the potential to grow in severity or frequency. Emphasize early detection and early resolution of issues Identify critical operations and establish process controls that prevent and eliminate errors in the workplace Stay up to date with the technology of manufacturing operations (i.e. including other shop auxiliary operations) to enhance safety, quality and productivity Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing / Technology or Equivalent (preferred) Must have a solid manufacturing background with an understanding of sheet metal manufacturing equipment capabilities and limitations Must be able to work in teams and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills Must be able to read various customer drawings, interpret datums and tolerances, and evaluate specifications Must be able to read and interpret geometric tolerances (GD&T) and communicate to others Ability to create parametric models (smart models); including surface modeling, solid and sheet metal modeling Create drawings, subassemblies and part-child relationships in the CAD data structure Troubleshoot and resolve data integrity issues Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Viso, MS Project, and CAD software Adhere to Quality, Safety and Environmental policies Able to work flexible hours and willing to work overtime as required Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical machines and in atmospheric conditions occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate except for when in the production facilities. Required PPE: When in the production facility; Safety glasses w/ side shields and protective footwear with steel toe are required. Hearing protection is also required in designated areas.
