The Processing Archivist for the Newcomb Archives and Vorhoff Collection at the Newcomb Institute assists the Head of Archives Management and Strategies with overseeing the storage, intellectual organization, and long-term preservation and access of collections, including born digital and digitized materials. They work with other members of Newcomb Archives staff to plan and implement archival processing projects including actively maintaining and improving already processed materials. Under the guidance of the Head of Archives Management and Strategies, the Processing Archivist appraises, arranges, describes, preserves, and provides access to archival collections of varying sizes and formats, including paper-based media, audiovisual, digital archives, and graphic and photographic materials. The Processing Archivist will adhere to locally documented archival standards and best practices to create DACS-compliant finding aids using the archival content management system ArchivesSpace. They process new and legacy collections and supervise processing projects done by archives staff. They contribute to creating and documenting policies, procedures, and workflows that are user-centered and transparent that facilitate efficient arrangement, description, and access to collections. They will be active in improving access to collections by creating inventories, shelf lists and transportation schedules for all collections stored in all Newcomb Archives Active Storage Locations. The Processing Archivist will collaborate with the Archivist for Public Engagement and Research Services to promote and improve the visibility, access, and use of Newcomb Archives collections. 
Qualifications: REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Master's degree from an ALA accredited program with an emphasis in archives and records management, or an advanced degree in an equivalent discipline One to two years of related experience REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY:  Thorough understanding of archival records lifecycle and current and emerging approaches to user-driven archival processing programs Knowledge of best practices for the acquisition of archival and special collections materials, including born digital materials Demonstrated project management experience Demonstrated experience applying efficient techniques for managing collections, specifically regarding arranging, describing, preserving, and providing access to archival collections of varying size and complexity Experience working with archival content management systems such as ArchivesSpace, Archon, or Archivists' Toolkit Knowledge of library and archival standards and vocabularies, including EAD, DACS, MARC, RDA, and LCSH Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and project management skills Able to be responsive to the needs of a diverse faculty and student population and committed to fostering diversity and inclusion in the work environment Must have a valid driver's license Ability to lift 40lbs PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  1. Knowledge of preventative conservation and ability to mitigate risk of deterioration at the macro and micro level of archival collections care
2. Knowledge of emerging technology trends and application of methods to facilitate digitization of archival and special collections materials and preservation of digitized and born digital materials
3. Experience supervising archives staff in an academic setting
4. A record of engagement with the profession through committee work, presentations, and/or publication
5. Achievement of Certified Archivist status
6. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in the archives and special collections field
7. Knowledge of and interest in women's and gender history
