EB Groton Shipyard Overview The Process Engineering Organization provides mission-critical support to EB leadership and the functional organizations by developing and managing the organization's improvement strategies, executing improvement initiatives, mentoring and supporting employees in executing improvements, and measuring the impact of an organization's improvement activities.
Selected candidates will be responsible for the application of Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma principles to investigate, analyze and facilitate process change directly resulting in reduced costs and lead times within the manufacturing and outfitting areas at Groton.
The selected applicants will receive training and certification in Lean and Six Sigma in support of improving Electric Boats business processes.
This job falls into the process engineering department responsible for supporting the Vice Presidents and Directors in Groton Operations (Pipe, Steel, Electrical, Inside/Outside Machinists, Carpenters/Painters, Ships Management & Nuclear Ships Management).
Responsibilities include:
Assist organizations in identifying, planning, and implementing Process Improvements and Lean Six Sigma Projects and ensure they align with company objectives Lead teams on projects to improve safety and quality, reducing cost, and improving schedule performance Fostering a culture of continuous improvement in the organization Work with leadership and employees on applying Lean and Six Sigma approaches to help achieve process excellence Provide mentorship to employees when leading change Identify and eliminate the barriers that prevent successful attainment of companys improvement goals Selected candidates will demonstrate strong project management skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision and in a team environment. Candidates must be capable of combining assertive initiative with professional discipline to accomplish challenging tasks, and work as Change Agents to remove barriers that hinder change.
This position is located at the Groton, CT location. Responsibilities Strong organizational, interpersonal skills and managerial courage Ability to function independently and work in a multidiscipline team environment Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills Candidates should be highly motivated Strong teamwork and problem solving skills Qualifications Required: Advanced proficiency with MS Office, specifically Excel (charts, pivot tables, comfortability with large data sets)
Good presentation and oral/written communication skills Excellent project management skills with a working knowledge of the principles of analytical problem solving techniques An understanding of basic probability and statistics Works well in a team environment Excellent interpersonal skills Candidates must be possess the professional discipline required to accomplish challenging tasks, and work as change agents to remove barriers that hinder change. Candidate must successfully complete company-provided Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt training, pass training course exams, and complete certification requirements to remain in this role. Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance Internal candidates must be from organizations outside of operations (Gildart/Gabriel) Preferred: BS in Industrial Engineering or an equivalent degree Lean Manufacturing and/or Lean Six Sigma Black/Green Belt Training Experience with Lean, Kaizen, or Toyota Production Systems is highly desired Experience with project budgeting, cost estimating, scheduling is highly desired Proven track record of successful projects and/or achievements Solid functional expertise and a reputation as a change leader Able to combine initiative with professionalism to accomplish difficult tasks Motivated, performance driven individual with strong leadership skills Knowledgeable in developing Continuous Improvement strategies and vision PI********
