CHRIST THE KING CATHOLIC SCHOOLPosition DescriptionPosition: Principal-MinisterParish: Christ the KingLocation: Toledo, OH 43623Status: Full-Time; 1-Year Renewable ContractReports To: PastorDate: June 2023General DescriptionThe Principal of Christ the King Catholic School, the largest parochial Pre-K through Grade 8 school in the 19-county diocese of Northwest Ohio, provides spiritual, educational and administrative leadership seeking to shape each educator to be a confident and compassionate Gospel witness and to recognize and reverence the dignity of each person as an image of God.The Principal is responsible for day-to-day operations of the school, directly accountable to the Pastor, participates as a member of the Parish Leadership Core Team and works cooperatively with the various council members - pastoral, finance and school.The Principal, Assistant Principal, and Preschool Director work together as an administrative team to promote and advance the school's mission: As a Catholic community, we nurture Christ-like leaders who use their gifts and talents to glorify God.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSpiritual LeadershipWorks cooperatively with the Pastor for the continuous spiritual development of faculty, staff and students and personally models this developmentCreates and maintains visible signs of Catholic mission in, around and throughout the school and all school eventsWorks closely with Pastor to ensure the school is an energetic source for evangelization in the parish and wider world in which we liveRemains appraised on current catechetical techniques and emerging faith formation trends to assist students and families, along with faculty and staff, to grow in understanding and practice of the Catholic FaithEnsures the Catholic Identity goal of the multi-year Accreditation Plan is implemented with the assistance of the Catholic Identity Committee members and School Council members.Educational LeadershipOrganizes, administers and evaluates instructional programs with faculty and adhering to the contours of the Diocese of Toledo elementary school course of studiesDetermines effective instructional strategies with faculty in accordance with the Ohio Department of Education and the Diocese of ToledoMaintains full school accreditation with the Ohio Catholic School Accreditation Association and State of Ohio accreditation requirementsDevelops and implements a comprehensive school wide strategy to prepare students to successfully achieve adequate yearly progressEvaluates the success of evidence-based and experiential learning goals, adjusting these programs as neededCreates school professional development goals to support ultimate mastery of federal, local, and state standards and benchmarksCommits to a personalized approach that reverences all people and recognizes the unique needs of every learnerEstablishes and monitors adequate procedures for evaluating and reporting pupil progress to parents.Promotes and maintains throughout the school a spirit of discipline that is wholesome and reasonableAdministrative LeadershipSupports and evaluates the highest performance of faculty and staff members through informal and formal observations, one-on-one conferences and written feedbackMaintains essential records on employees, students and programs; maintains all necessary documentation to support accreditation of the school; collects, maintains and disseminates student records according to Diocese of Toledo policiesAssists in the recruiting, hiring and dismissing employees with the guidance of the Diocese of Toledo Human Resources Department and, whenever necessary, in consultation with the Pastor and Business ManagerKeeps the Handbook current and accurate and maintains effective communication for school employees, parents, students, parish and the wider communityEnsures the safety of all students and staff through effective management of school operationsPlans and coordinates school public relations, working cooperatively with the Director of Marketing and Development, especially working to keep school successes and needs before the members of the parishMaintains effective relationships among students, parents, teachers, support staff, parish leaders and council membersPrepares and presents reports as requested by the Pastor and Business ManagerObserves all regulations pertaining to school attendanceProvides for adequate supervision of students on school premises and during school sponsored activitiesWorking cooperatively with Pastor and Business Manager along with School and Finance Council members, develops annual budget; furnishes data and makes recommendations in preparation for the annual budgetAssures sound financial management is practiced by the school. This includes development and monitoring of budgets; timely and accurate reporting to the parish, Diocese of Toledo and appropriate government agencies; assurance of proper deposit, disbursement and accounting for all school community related funds; and oversight of all major fundraising activities along with the direct approval for all fundraising activitiesPlans and coordinates off-site activities involving staff and students including opportunities for performing corporal and spiritual works of mercyQualificationsThe Principal serves as a minister of the Catholic Church; moreover, the Principal must be an active Catholic in good standing with the Church.Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree; preferred Master's degree in Education/Education AdministrationMinimum of 5 years as a teacher in a Catholic schoolOhio Department of Education licensure (or have the ability to obtain)Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesProficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook) and Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Drive), basic webpage development skills and social networking sitesWorks independently and identifies accurately when email, phone calls or in-person meetings are requiredDevelops and maintains positive relationships with employees, parents and students along with parish leadersFaces situations consistently, confidently, compassionately, tactfully, always advancing the inherent dignity of all people and upholding rightsOrganizes and prioritizes work, is proactive, takes initiative, resolves complex problems and sees tasks through to their proper completions while managing multiple priorities simultaneouslyCommunicates interpersonally at high level verbally and in writing; can produce clear, concise reports and recommendations and create and lead effective presentationsIn compliance with the Diocese of Toledo Child Abuse Policy requirements including BCI/FBI background checks prior to employment and every five yearsWorking ConditionsThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
