Description of Job The Work Unit:
The Office of STI/HIV/VH works to reduce disease transmission and ensure quality and medically accurate STI/HIV related prevention, care, and treatment services for all people in Colorado. Functions include public health surveillance of STI/HIV/VH; follow-up of people newly diagnosed with a STI/HIV to ensure adequate treatment; referrals and partner notification; access to care and treatment as appropriate; developing comprehensive prevention programs; and conducting program evaluation to enhance the use of STI/HIV/VH data to direct prevention and care activities. The Office of STI/HIV/VH, operates on the belief that all people - no matter their race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, education level, age, language, religion, ability or geographic location - should have the opportunity to live healthy lives.


The STI/HIV/VH Prevention and Care Trainer is part of the Capacity Building and Training Program (CBT) within the Office of STI/HIV/VH. The CBT Program is charged to sustain science-based, culturally appropriate prevention interventions and care practices in Colorado. The Training Unit exists to assist internal staff, community partners/contractors, local health department staff and other stakeholders to deliver high standards of prevention, care and treatment services to the public. The CBT identifies novel approaches to effectively use resources to make relevant training accessible to contracted community based organizations (CBO), local public health agencies (LPHA) and other stakeholders.



What You Will Be Doing:
This position primarily serves as a trainer and curricula designer supporting publicly funded STI/HIV/VH services in Colorado. Under the supervision of the Training Unit Supervisor, the position develops, coordinates, and delivers training and technical assistance to a variety of audiences in Colorado including, internal staff, contracted agency staff, community-based providers, and local health department staff. The position delivers training and technical assistance via in-person, virtual and hybrid avenues; and develops, adapts and utilizes curricula aligned with national best practices and prevention standards in Colorado.



Responsibilities of the position include but not limited to: Performs curriculum development and instructional design to create and revise training curricula and technical assistance resources according to adult learning theories compatible with various delivery methods. Adapts and facilitates courses to enhance knowledge and skills of providers across the State. Delivers asynchronous, synchronous, and blended training via in-person and virtual platforms. Provides technical assistance to enhance knowledge and skills of providers across the State. Collaborates with CBT and other program staff to ensure training and technical assistance resources align with State standards of prevention and care services, programmatic policies and procedures, and national policies and best practices. Makes recommendations to the programs to address participants' and agencies' training and technical assistance needs. Conducts research to identify effective training and technical assistance based on desired topics and intended audiences. Five (5) years of professional experience in training, technical assistance, instructional design, education, communications, technical writing, or closely-related field, preferably in a public health setting with a strong preference related to training facilitation in social services or public health education of STI/HIV/Viral Hepatitis.
OR Option 2: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in communications, education, public health, social work, or a field of study closely related to the work assignment.
AND
One (1) year of professional experience in training, technical assistance, instructional design, education, communications, technical writing, or closely-related field, preferably in a public health setting with a strong preference related to training facilitation in social services or public health education of STI/HIV/Viral Hepatitis.

Option 3:
Master's degree from an accredited institution in communications, education, public health, social work, or a field of study closely related to the work assignment.

Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the minimum requirements, the successful candidate in this position will have the following highly desirable experience and competencies:

Relevant experience with the State of Colorado Experience facilitating group training or education for adults. Experience writing and designing training or education curricula. Experience conducting training needs analysis and evaluation. Experience with STI, HIV, and/or Viral Hepatitis services. Experience working with people from different social backgrounds such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, age, and class. Conditions of Employment: Pursuant to CDPHE policy, a background check is required for all positions at CDPHE. Critical Status: Must be available in the event of an emergency, (e.g., bio-terrorist attack, chemical attack, disease outbreak or all hazards) and be required to report to work immediately at the regular or alternate location. During this time, travel restrictions may be in place.
