Provide health care to Neurosurgery patients, with emphasis on cerebrovascular subspecialty as well as other common cranial conditions such as Chiari malformation, IIH, Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, Tumor.
Independently evaluate and manage new patients, and return visits.
Provide care independently and through collaborative relationships with Neurosurgery Faculty through assessment, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations.
Act as a consultant for inpatient and outpatient staff and other MM providers.
Provide clinical leadership in clinical practice setting, including staff development (student, physician and staff education ) and participation in research opportunities.
Participate in ongoing quality improvement and research initiatives, which include assisting with data collection for research purposes.
Manage operative cases from point of treatment discussion case to preoperative assessment/clearance, obtaining signed informed consent for all procedures, pre-operative teaching and postoperative care. Additionally, order appropriate labs, radiographic studies, referrals, etc. as necessary for the team. Be available to see urgent patients that may require a same day office visit.
Independently perform minor procedures in the clinic setting and assist with frame placements when residents are not available.
Evaluate, screen, and counsel patients on health maintenance and promote utilization of community resources.

Communicate with patients through various means, including phone/video visits/in person visits, Michart portal messaging. Communicate with primary care and referring physicians and participate in the continuum of care.
Manage Michart inbasket for cerebrovascular team, which includes managing phone calls from patients, prescription refills, review radiographic results and labs for abnormalities,, and responding accordingly.
Provide pre and post-procedural care for outpatient procedures (diagnostic angiography).
Work collaboratively with other APPs in the department which includes covering for colleagues when needed.
Review and update cerebrovascular outpatient patient education annually.
Co-lead Brain Aneurysm Support Group
Participation in neurovascular conferences and tumor board meetings.
Participate in outreach program for cerebrovascular program.
Participate in Comprehensive Stroke Center committees.
Required Qualifications* NP
Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan. Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Adult-Gerontology primary care Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). Current DEA registration required BLS certified PA:
Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan. Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Satisfactory completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP. State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required Current DEA registration required BLS certified NOTE:

Desired Qualifications* Recent (within the past five years) ambulatory care experience in Neurosciences as an APP. Recent (within the past five years) ICU or telemetry experience as an APP. 3 years of APP experience Experience as APP performing procedures including wound debridement, shunt adjustments, tapping of VP shunts, and frame placement Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. Interest in speaking/presenting at national and local conferences. Demonstrate ability to develop and maintain complex, collaborative practice. Demonstrate ability to manage research databases.
