Job Summary UT Southwestern is in search of a skilled and experienced Power Plant Operator II. Works under minimal supervision to perform journey-level operation and maintenance of equipment and machinery in central plant environment.
Work Location : Plant Operations, Dallas Campus
Shift Requirement : 3 x 12-hour day shifts and 4 hours either on the first or last day for a total of 40 hours per week. Plant Operators can be on-call during emergencies, or to cover another shift, inclement weather, and the like. The shift coverage could be for day or night.
Minimum Experience and Education Qualifications Requires high school diploma, GED, or vocational school. Requires three (3) years of work experience in operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, or industrial equipment, such as the following: Boiler Operations Steam Systems Chiller Operations HVAC and Refrigeration Cooling Tower and Pump Operations Other Industrial Rotating Equipment Water Treatment Building Automation Systems Preferred Experience, Education, and Certifications Candidates with previous experience as a Power Plant Operator in a Thermal Energy Plant or University Physical Plant. Education in certified operator program or power plant technology. Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or electrical engineering. Active CFC and/or EIT certification. Experience in electrical, plumbing, controls, and welding. A copy of training diplomas or certificates. A copy of trade licenses. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Work requires computer literacy. Work requires the ability to plan and perform unusual and difficult assignments and needs to make decisions involving use of considerable ingenuity, initiative, and/or judgment. Work requires alertness and close attention to detail to avoid injury to self and others. Work requires proficiency in all phases of work performed. Work requires walking, bending, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., pulling/pushing equipment up to 50 lbs. Job Duties Starts up, shuts down, and adjusts power plant and/or chilling station equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures. Cleans and maintains equipment and work areas. Monitors equipment and maintains records of equipment operational status. Modifies and changes graphics as systems change and upgrade. Operates control computer systems. Troubleshoots and analyzes problems based on equipment operation records. Performs detailed inspections of operating equipment for proper operation. Inform appropriate personnel of unusual conditions, problems, or deficiencies. Identifies and reports safety hazards and equipment malfunctions. Supervises support staff as needed. Attends meetings and training courses. Trains new personnel as required. May perform preventative or corrective maintenance tasks to operation of mechanical or electrical systems. May complete work orders using automated maintenance program systems. Performs other duties as assigned. Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimum require prior approval of Vice President for Human Resources Administration or his/her designee.
