Department: 111801 - Entomology and Plant Pathology
Job City & State: Raleigh, NC
Essential Job Duties: We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scholar for a three-year research project on insect biodiversity and comparative seasonal activity in North Carolina. This project is in the context of the conservation of a critically important population of a federally listed endangered bat species (Myotis septentrionalis, the northern long-eared bat). This population of bats is winter active in the Coastal Plain of NC, and thus avoided the decimation associated with white-nose syndrome afflicting other populations in hibernacula. The project specifically addresses our lack of knowledge about winter activity in bat forage (arthropods: flying insects and resting insects/spiders in vegetation). Furthermore, we will test hypotheses about seasonal changes in arthropod diversity and community phylogenetics in the context of climate change.
The Postdoc in this position will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties: Coordinate and conduct field work collecting insects in wetland habitats in central and eastern North Carolina in winter and summer Collect, curate, and analyze arthropod data.
