The department offers courses of study leading to a B.A. degree in Art History and B.A. and B.F.A. degrees in Studio Art, as well as a minor in Museum and Gallery Methods. The Studio Art curriculum is designed to develop the ability to create, analyze, interpret and evaluate art. The department strives to stimulate creativity and competency as students develop their skills and knowledge of materials and technologies. Fundamental to the study of art is a belief in its potential to communicate ideas, emotions, and values necessary for understanding and functioning effectively within the modern world. The Studio program prepares majors for careers in art and work at the graduate level. The program facility houses specialized studios for the study of Ceramics, Digital Media, Painting, Printmaking, Photography and Sculpture, and includes a wood shop, welding studio, and bronze foundry. Classes may include: ARTH 467 Collections Management; ARTH 468 Curatorial Practice; ARTH 493 Museum and Gallery Management; ARTH 494 Museum History and Theory. Coordinate with department faculty, University Art Gallery staff, and off-campus institutions to support student internships.Professional QualificationsTo be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have:Required:B.A. in field relevant to museum professionsAt least 1 year of museum or gallery experience, OR M.A. in Museum Studies or related field.Rank and SalaryFull-time is a 15-unit workload per semester. Actual salary is dependent upon the number of units assigned, educational preparation, and availability of funds subject to any CSU system faculty contract salary increases.Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,530 - $6,056 per full-time month.The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salary range indicated above is prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.Selection as a candidate in the applicant pool, does not guarantee employment.
