General Description and Classification Standards  Monitors and protects the water ways of the State, by sampling of the creek and inspection of Storm water drainage system within the City of Atlanta. Inspects each facility in the designated area to ensure proper design, operations and maintenance of Fat Oil Grease removal device, and to ensure proper disposal of the contents. This is an experienced, skilled or technical level capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the position or specialty with limited guidance or review. This level would be considered a promotional level and attainable by any incumbents in a work group who demonstrate the necessary knowledge, ability, and performance. Could be the only position in this specialty in a work group or could be part of a general or specialized work team.
Supervision Received 
Works under very general supervision. May work independently or with other skilled or semi-skilled workers with responsibility for completion of assigned tasks. 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. 
Inspects each facility in the designated area; several times per year to ensure proper design, operations and maintenance of Fat, Oil, & Grease (FOG) removal device, and to ensure proper disposal of FOG.
Locates new facilities in assigned areas; verifies closed facilities on weekly report. Performs QA/QC checks in designated areas to ensure completion of inspections and accurate data entry. 
Accurately completes and delivers all Food Service permits within 30 days of proof of payment within group's area. 
Maintains, tracks, and documents permit reports, weekly reports, and monthly report. Inputs and updates Food Service Establishments (FSE's) to be invoiced annually for permit fees and re-inspections fees into the appropriate database. 
Eliminates FOG in the City of Atlanta sewer collection system by responding to sewer overflows related to grease within 24 hours and assigns emergencies spills within 2 hours in accordance with SOP. Locates, identifies and inspects FSE's causing problems in assigned area(s). 
Notify inspector of all spills and facilities inspected in their assigned area. 
Monitors and protects the water ways of the State, by sampling of the creek and inspection of Storm water drainage system within the City of Atlanta. 
Ensures the environmental code enforcement of the FOG ordinance from field operative perspective. Protects the City of Atlanta's domestic sanitary sewer system from the introduction of FOG. 
Compiles and manages the inventory of equipment and supplies; effectively installs and performs complex site setups and installations for continued flow monitoring and customer service. 
Verifies correct site functionality via laptop and analyses of wave graphs site parameters. Installs and maintains a network of rain gauges that monitors rainfall throughout the City; installs and maintains temporary pH meter sites; maintain compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and rules associated with environmental health and flow monitoring. 
Performs enforcement actions, inspects, monitors, and samples industrial users throughout the City of Atlanta and some surrounding municipalities to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal water pollution.

May make purchasing or resource allocation decisions within organization guidelines.

Provides guidance and training as required to lower level, interns, temporary employees, etc. 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of time management; knowledge of construction practices and terminology; knowledge of wastewater terminology; knowledge of the following Engineering disciplines: mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical, biological, environmental, computer science. Skill in operating a basic computer and software; skill in problem solving.  Ability to adapt to changes in the field; ability to speak clearly and concisely in public and among staff members; ability to write business letters and compose spreadsheets; ability to operate field equipment such as: samplers, flow meters, pH meters, camera, etc.; ability to withstand extreme temperature changes and physically demanding conditions; ability to understand scientific terms; ability to make independent judgment in absence of supervision; ability to technically repair ADFM meters; ability to operate company vehicle.
