The Capital University Dispatchers have the responsibility to provide twenty-four hour daily emergency telephone service to the campus community and maintain twenty-four hour daily radio dispatch service to patrol officers. Dispatchers shall be under the command of the Chief of Police, with immediate supervision provided by the Shift Sergeant.
Responsibilities: Maintains logs (such as patrol logs, petty cash logs, parking logs, etc.) and produces related correspondence. Manages student employees. Manages dispatch and office operations. Answers questions from the campus community and the general public covering a wide range of university and Public Safety related matters. Manages campus police radios, and monitors campus facilities, Columbus and Bexley radios when possible. Contacts Bexley PD and Columbus Fire Department / Medical Personnel when needed. Assists in parking services. Qualifications: High school diploma required. Public Safety Telecommunicator 1, one to two years of related experience or training in an office environment and experience/training in radio communication; publ ic safety experience/training in higher education or similar field preferred. Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain high level of confidentiality. Ability to remain calm under pressure. Ability to work without supervision. Excellent facility in using Microsoft Suite. Excellent professional verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to work a flexible schedule; days, evenings, midnight shifts, weekends and holidays. Dispatchers must pass FBI and BCI&I fingerprint background checks.
