Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities: Assists in operation of the building automation system and the steam and chilled water equipment in the University's central heating and cooling plant. Responsible for assisting in operation of the building automation system and the steam and chilled water equipment in the university's central heating and cooling plant.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, Assisting in the care and operation of the electronic building automation system, centrifugal refrigeration machines, fossil fuel boilers, electrical boilers and their associated machine components. Assisting in water treatment and the inspection, maintenance, and emergency repairs of machinery and equipment. Must keep the plant area clean and in an orderly manner, and perform other related duties as assigned by supervision. Minimum Education Requirements: High school graduate or equivalent. Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements: Two years of related experience at a similar heating and cooling facility or industrial facility requiring multi-talented, craft achievements. Vocational school training may be exchanged for experience at a rate of one-half time per year. Should have an adequate working knowledge of a combination of crafts including, but not limited to, the following: electrical transmission including high voltage, branch and control circuitry, steam and chilled water distribution, fire alarm systems, elevators, plumbing, piping, pumping, painting, pneumatics, automation and environmental control systems. Performs general maintenance functions as assigned. Possess excellent communication and coordination skills. Must have a valid driver's license, meet the requirements to operate a University vehicle, and possess excellent communication and coordination skills. Technical school training in lieu of experience operating boilers and chillers Hourly Rate: $12.45 (Additional pay dependent upon qualifications)
Minimum Salary: $12.45
Work Hours: Eight hours per day, five days per week. Involves night and weekend work and may require overtime when needed. Exposure to high voltage, extreme steam pressure, and other dangerous equipment. Will be required to work holidays when needed. This position will be required to work to provide critical services during University holidays, closures, and other emergencies, as needed. Critical services refer to the units that ensure the continuation of key operations and services that directly relate to the security, safety, and/or physical operation of the University (including services to students). Critical services employees will be required to report to work unless their supervisor advises otherwise. Work Location: Murray, KY
