The Nursery Assistant is responsible for assisting with day-to-day plant propagation, watering, and various other necessary tasks related to plant care, production, and maintenance of The Arboretums nursery. Essential Responsibilities Perform daily watering of nursery, greenhouse, and Garden Shop plants. Maintain ornamental containers/arrangements in the Visitor Center Garden Shop. Assist in plant care within the nursery which may include up-potting, transplanting, pruning, staking, pest management, and movement of plants when necessary. Assist with nursery propagation including seed stratification, seed cleaning and sowing, cutting production, and grafting. Assist in leading nursery volunteers during weekly workdays and special events. Provide support for the seed collection process. Serve as weekend staffing for the nursery to provide coverage for all watering needs and visitor engagement. Qualifications High school diploma, or general education degree (GED). Two (2) years of demonstrated experience related to horticulture, botany, etc., or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Adept with technology. Previous experience with IrisBG software is a plus. Ability to work holidays, evenings, and weekends as needed ( weekend coverage will be required for this position .) Strong attention to detail. Ability to professionally interact with visitors, volunteers, and staff. Self-motivated, with a willingness to learn new skills. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically strenuous work. Organizational Culture
