Primary support for the Pharmacy Technician Training Program. This position provides technical support to pharmacists through preparation of unit doses, data entry, delivery of medications, and cartfill exchange. Person working this shift is responsible for ensuring accountability and accuracy of standard operations procedures in these areas. Position works under direct supervision of a Pharmacist who is responsible for the safe and proper distribution and use of drugs in inpatients and outpatients who range in age from neonates, infants 65. Be able to perform duties as specified in Pharmacy Technician 1 and 2 Class Specifications as applicable to work unit.
Assist Pharmacy Technician Training Program through performance of the following technical support activities:
Manage and assist with training classes for pharmacy technician students in community and hospital pharmacy concepts.
Class preparation including ensuring inventory of supplies, determining course time frames, managing class registrations, arranging classroom space, coordination with computer access, and documentation of training completion.
Administer training assessments. Use the results of these measurements to continually improve training.
Recruitment strategies including attending career fairs, interviewing and selecting candidates prior to acceptance into the program.
Student enrollment responsibilities of assisting with orientation and process of student accounts.
Perform other program duties as assigned based on operational needs.
Assis with ongoing student success strategies. Assist pharmacist through performance of the following technical support activities: Computer order entry of inpatient and outpatient orders. Filling unit dose medication orders. Select ordered medications from inventory to fill new orders or to provide 24-hours medication for distribution to patient's room. Answering telephone, filing, billing / crediting and medication profile maintenance. Load and refill medications into automated dispensing cabinet stations. Maintain manufacturing logs and document to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies. Prioritize labels from new orders to assure that product is delivered to label location at least one hour prior to label due time. Organize and restock work areas during and prior to end of shift, and remove expired medication.  Round to nursing locations; deliver items and remove excess and discontinued oral dosage and injectable dosage units from patients' bins and refrigerators and return to pharmacy for action. Perform Unit Dose functions including: Tube medications from pharmacy to hospital and clinic areas. Repackage medications for unit dose dispensing. Return medications to stock and perform credits. Record refrigerator temperature daily. Process narcotics for removal from Pharmacy inventory and order replacements as needed. F. Maintain barcode medication integrity by ensuring medications are barcoded before leaving the pharmacy. Prepare, mix and compound sterile medications, including chemotherapy. Adherence to aseptic procedures when preparing, mixing and compounding sterile hazardous and non-hazardous medications. Performs pharmaceutical calculations in verifying dosage for medications to be prepared. Cleans and maintains primary and secondary engineering controls (e.g., vertical and laminar flow hoods) and equipment used to compound sterile hazardous and non-hazardous medications (e.g. repeater pump, work surfaces), discarding all non-preserved and/or non-labeled solutions in order to keep work area clean and orderly. Perform other technician duties as assigned based on operational needs. Completion of high school degree. 2 years of Pharmacy work experience, or equivalent additional education Strong presentation and communication skills. Ability to spontaneously adapt class content to audience interests and needs. Ability to read and understand medical-related terms. Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical mathematics calculations. Skill at manipulating small objects, e.g., needles, syringes, ampules. Ability to use mechanical system for transfer of fluids. Knowledge of and skill at application of aseptic technique. Ability to establish priorities in workflow. Good interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work under supervision of diverse Pharmacists. Formal pharmacy technician training program. Pharmacy inpatient and outpatient work experience; experience working in a complex health care delivery system. Comprehensive knowledge of community and hospital pharmacy concepts (pharmacology, medication error and safety, pharmaceutical calculations, non-sterile compounding, sterile admixture, Federal and State laws and regulations) Inpatient and outpatient hospital pharmacy experience. Medical and scientific nomenclature. HOUR OF WORK (Primarily): Shift range 6:00am – 2:30pm, 2:00pm – 10:30pm, Variable 
DAYS OF WORK/ ROTATION (Primarily): Tuesday, Thursday, One weekend a month, Variable 
Posting Pay: $27.68 - $37.45 per hour
