Job Description
Lurie Children's Hospital is seeking a full-time licensed pediatric psychologist to work alongside the multidisciplinary endocrinology care team providing services to pediatric patients. Primary responsibilities include the provision of direct clinical services to children and adolescents in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This position is located in the Pritzker Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. Qualified candidates will have obtained a PhD or PsyD in a psychology training program and completed an APA-approved internship specializing in clinical child or pediatric psychology. It is preferred that this individual have fellowship-level training in pediatric psychology which includes the evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents with complex medical needs.
Responsibilities associated with this role will include:
Meeting newly diagnosed families of children with Type 1 diabetes to provide psychoeducation aimed at facilitating family-focused adaptation and coping to a new diagnosis.

Completing inpatient consultations

Participating in interdisciplinary outpatient diabetes clinics

Scholarly activities including teaching and research are expected

Job Summary:
Primary responsibilities include the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents experiencing psychological problems associated with medical or surgical conditions. Direct clinical services will be integrated into multi-disciplinary medical care teams. Provision of direct, evidence-based patient care may occur in the inpatient units and/or in outpatient medical or behavioral health clinics. The psychologist will work with their assigned medical team to integrate psychosocial and medical services, focused on enhancing optimal patient outcomes. Offering education and training for all providers regarding the psychosocial care of families with medical or surgical conditions is also expected. Additional responsibilities include teaching and supervising trainees, including students in the APA-accredited psychology internship program and post-doctoral fellows. The third responsibility is to engage in scholarly activities, including research, program development and presentation of findings at national conferences. The applicant is expected to understand and integrate a developmental perspective into the provision of care to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients regarding their growth and development process.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Position-specific functions include conducting evaluations and treatment of children and adolescents admitted to medical/surgical inpatients at Lurie Children's Hospital.
2. Essential job functions for this psychologist include the administration and interpretation of developmental tests appropriate for children ages 0-6 with a variety of development deficits and medical conditions.
3. Additional essential job functions for medical psychologists who primary role is provision of psychiatric care through dedicated partnering with a pediatric specialty division.
4. Provides psychological evaluations and treatment for children treated in the pediatric specialty division, in both inpatient and ambulatory settings.
5. Collaborates with team members of the specialty division in developing, implementing and maintaining policies and procedures specific to the provision of psychiatric care to patients within the pediatric specialty.
6. Serves as a team member within the pediatric specialty division.
7. Engages in research activities relevant to the pediatric specialty t hat may include increasing understanding of the psychological aspects of pediatric chronic illness and medical conditions, program evaluation, and treatment approaches used in their clinical activities.
8. Special physical requirements – sits and stands throughout the day. Physical management of patients in crisis situation may be necessary.
9. With approval from the pediatric specialty division, may provide clinical services for other medical psychologists and clinicians in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry when coverage is needed, or if they have specific skills that might benefit patients being treated by other pediatric specialists.
10. Collaborates and consults with medical providers, schools, social service agencies as well as city, county, and state funding and placement agencies through oral and written presentation of clinical findings and recommendations. Completes all case management duties of assigned cases including discharge planning, completion of the diagnostic evaluation and referrals to appropriate support services as needed.
11. Participates in rounds, patient care conferences, diagnostic and treatment staffing team meetings, multidisciplinary case conferences, and discipline-specific team meetings.
12. Provides training through direct supervision and teaching of didactic courses in the subspecialties of clinical child and pediatric psychology and integrated behavioral health treatment to Lurie Children's, McGaw Medical Center, and Feinberg School of Medicine students, interns, and fellows in various disciplines.
13.

Follows protocols and procedures of the Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Lurie Children's Hospital.
14. Collaborates with team members and department & hospital leadership in writing/reviewing program and departmental policies and procedures as needed.
15. Participates in continuing education events including hospital and department mandatory education courses and courses required to maintain professional

certification/licensure

requirements.
16. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers, and others.
17. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and

Abilities:
A doctoral degree in clinical psychology with APA-approved internship

required.
If degree is in a related area (e.g., human development) must have completed APA approved internship.
Completion of a one-year fellowship in clinical child psychology or pediatric

psychology.
Required licensure and/or certification: licensed or

license-eligible.

If employee is license-eligible, state license, employee must obtain license and be granted clinical privileges before start date.
Ability to think proactively, acts creatively, and takes initiative appropriately. Excellent communication, critical-thinking, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work and lead with a strong spirit of collegiality within the multidisciplinary teams
Special physical requirements – sits and stands throughout the day. Physical management of patients in crisis situation may be necessary.
Basic Life Support Certification required within sixty days of hire
Demonstrated ability to work as a part of multiple teams.
