Accountable for the accurate and timely processing of biweekly payrolls. Responsible for the accurate and timely payroll tax accounting and reporting for BCBSSC and its subsidiary companies.

Location: Columbia, SC (onsite
What You'll Do:
Develops and implements payroll strategy, policies, procedures, planning, controls, and communication of payroll functions and services to customers. Ensures customer service levels and adherence of policies and procedures by staff.
Oversees the collection, calculation and entering of payroll data. Responsible for quality control functions to ensure accuracy. Ensures funding, payroll tax deposits and filings, GL account reconciliations, garnishment processing, bank deposits, and adherence to controls. Ensures timely and accurate paychecks for employees
Manages internal customer and external customer relationships, including division heads, external auditors, vendors, employees, etc. Ensures delivery of expected items to support payroll function and area.
Responsible for directing, hiring, disciplinary action, and performance management of staff. Ensures training for staff and directs the development of skills and knowledge for staff.
Required Education:
Bachelor's
Degree Equivalency:
4 years job related work experience or Associate's and 2 years job related work experience
Required Work Experience:
7 years payroll, accounting, finance, or tax experience. 3 years of supervisory or management experience, OR equivalent military experience in grade E4 or above.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet software. Good judgment skills. Effective organizational, customer service, presentation skills. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in spelling, punctuation, grammar skills. Knowledge of mathematical or statistical concepts. Ability to persuade, negotiate, or influence others. Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion. Ability to lead, motivate, and assess performance of staff. Working knowledge of general ledger accounting and tax applications.
Preferred Work Experience:
12+ years of payroll management experience.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
