Job Duties: Responsibilities of this position include answering and handling all incoming calls or transferring calls to the appropriate persons, scheduling appointments (new, return hospital follow-up and procedures), updating patient demographics, verifying authorization necessity and/or obtaining, and assist in rescheduling appointments with schedule changes. The employee handles high volumes of phone calls and has to communicate effectively with patients and other members of the medical community. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and computer skills are necessary for entering data into the electronic medical record. Accuracy and attention to detail are crucial to the performance of these duties. The employee will effectively communicate with patients, patient families, and with other healthcare professionals. The employee will work independently, prioritize work and multitask, while completing tasks efficiently and effectively. Currently, hours of clinic operations are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. CLINICAL SUPPORT POSITION – NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMAN RESOURCES ACT . The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center, which serves as it's teaching hospital, as well as the flagship hospital for ECU Health. Organizational Unit Overview: The Division of Infectious Diseases at The Brody School of Medicine provides state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of infections. Infectious Disease doctors help ensure the timely diagnosis and treatment of acute infections by recommending the appropriate diagnostic tests to identify the source of infections and by recommending the appropriate antibiotic to treat the infection. We are dedicated to the treatment of persons infected with HIV in Eastern North Carolina. Our physicians and physician extenders currently provide care for more than 1,500 patients in our clinic in Greenville as well as another 300 patients in clinics in surrounding counties. Faculty members are currently collecting data to address the issue of the disproportionate infection rate of HIV in African Americans. The division is involved in many clinical trials involving HIV therapies. These trials provide needed drugs to persons who may otherwise not be able to receive treatment.
