Description JOB TITLE: Paraprofessional - Tier II DEPARTMENT: Owasso Public Schools REPORTS TO: Principal FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt CONTRACT STATUS: Full-time / 176 days SALARY SCHEDULE: Paraprofessional II APPROVED BY: Charlene Duncan APPROVED DATE: 6/25/21 SUMMARY:  Provides support to lead teacher and gives assistance to students with individual physical, social, academic and other needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: these statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required. Assists with individualized student instruction using lessons developed by the teacher.  Assists with supplementary work for students and supervising independent study.  Reinforces lessons with small groups of students.  Provides assistance with individualized written and oral materials. Assists the teacher in observing, recording, and charting behavior.  Implements positive behavioral management strategies as directed by the teacher.  Assists with preparation of materials for use in specific instructional programs.  Accompanies students from the classroom to resource rooms and other programs.  Monitor students in the cafeteria, and playground type setting. Operates audiovisual and office equipment. Assists students with personal care and hygienic care.  Assists with health or physical needs of students; to include catheterization of a student. Position and assist students to move from wheelchair, desk, and walker.  Sets up and maintains special classroom equipment and learning centers.  Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips. Alerts the teacher to the special needs of individual children.  Assists students with transition activities.  Follows the legal and ethical standards of confidentiality of information. Develops cooperative and functional relationships with district staff and the public; maintains consistent and punctual attendance; ensures job responsibilities are met competently and within established deadlines. Assists with special projects. All other duties as assigned by the administrator.   SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  None QUALIFICATION:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent Associate Degree or higher OR 48 hours of college credit OR passed the ParaPRo (paraprofessional test) OR passed the OGET (Oklahoma General Education Test) OR passed the WorkKey Generally will have at least one year's experience in a closely related field. Yearly CPR, First Aid, and CPI certification. 6 hours of continuing education per year to maintain paraprofessional certification from the State of Oklahoma. Paraprofessional/Assistant Training  KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:  Basic knowledge of disabilities. Computer literate; excellent written and oral communication ability; strong knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and laws applicable to education and special education.  Ability to follow all district policies and procedures.  Ability to work independently, displaying initiative and enthusiasm for the tasks being done.  Demonstrating strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, team members, and administrators.  Ability to work without supervision, and work as a team player.  Ability to document records accurately.  Ability to manage confidential information in a manner that respects students, families, and employees.  Ability to listen effectively.   LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret English.   Ability to effectively communicate with supervisor, school personnel, and co-workers. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to perform basic math functions such as addition and subtraction. REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Will require lifting of students for proper positioning to prevent deformity and enhance comfort and stability, also transferring of students to toilet, floor wedge, bolster ball and other therapeutic equipment.  While performing the duties of this job, you must be able to sit in classroom chairs at a desk for up to an hour at a time.  Frequently walk the hallways the length of the school.
