Facilities ServicesPainter*** Temporary Position - 3 month appointment anticipated. ****** Two positions expected to be filled with recruitment. ***RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: As a journey-level skilled trade worker performs the full range of skilled work in the painting, finishing, and maintaining of a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces and structures. Prepares surfaces for painting and finishing; applies under coats and finish coats using the full range of application methods including brush, roll, spray, and electro-static spray. Hangs paper, mixes and matches paints and finishes, and performs sand water blasting. Erects scaffolding and/or hangs rigging from electronic staging for painting projects, paints signs and parking lot/roadway markings, and advises in the selection and storage of painting materials. Inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations and inspects related work performed by contractors. Submits daily labor cards. Estimates cost, time, and materials for painting project. Participates in the maintenance and operations of the paint shop; cleans and maintains painting and finishing materials, tools, and equipment used in the performance of duties. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures; maintains a safe and clean work environment. Maintains records and retrieves data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems; prepares standard reports. Consults and works with other trades workers and provides lead work direction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants. May drive pick-ups and other automotive equipment in performance of assigned duties. Other related duties as assigned.REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Experience: Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard painter's apprenticeship program.Knowledge:Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the painting trade including painting, finishing, drywall, and paperhanging. Thorough knowledge of the applicable state codes and regulations, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California.Abilities: Must be able to apply paints and finishes neatly and accurately, mix paints and finishes, match colors, and select the most appropriate materials. Ability to erect and work from scaffolds, rigging, and ladders. Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications; make rough sketches; and estimate cost, time, and materials of painting work. Ability to maintain records and retrieve data using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems and prepare standard reports. Able to provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants. Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations; read and write at a level appropriate to the position; and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position. Must interpret a wide variety of written rules and regulations. Must possess the interpersonal skills to interact and communicate effectively with all management, staff, and co-workers.Ability to successfully complete the Defensive Driver Training Program; must have the ability to provide proof of eligibility to lawfully operate a motor vehicle in the state of California. Must be able to accommodate a work schedule that varies according to operational needs which may include evening and weekend hours. This position requires full range of motion and a variety of movements necessary to perform strenuous manual labor, including but not limited to lifting and moving moderate sized equipment up to 50 lbs, bending, climbing, reaching, and applying force; work may involve exposure to hazardous materials.A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.Hiring Salary: $6,076 per month
