As the Outdoor Education Specialist , youll provide cohesive and dynamic delivery of programs for girls. Were seeking an Educator to serve as the link between Girl Scouts and the outdoors by facilitating program and camp activities based on the Girl Scout National Program Portfolio. The Outdoor Education Specialist will develop and deliver experiences that bring to life the Girl Scout Outdoor Experience. They should also have a commitment to integrating STEM education, life skills development, mental well-being practices, and environmental awareness into outdoor activities. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the outdoors, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Job Type: Full-time/Exempt Salary Range: $42,000 - $49,000 Annually Expected hours: up to 37.5 per week
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop and deploy educational resources that enhance the girl experience and the National Program Portfolio by planning and delivering experiential and educational experiences which center on three key processes: Girl-led, cooperative learning, and learning by doing. Develops and implements council-wide high-quality Girl Scout outdoor activities, programs and resources to meet the needs of girl members.  Develop and implement engaging outdoor recreational programs and activities, integrating STEM concepts, life skills development, mental well-being practices, and environmental awareness. Teach life skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and problem-solving through outdoor experiences. Support summer camp by facilitating outdoor activities during resident and day camps, travel adventures, and challenges courses (ropes, zip-line, climbing). Contributes to the retention of girls and adults through the implementation of outdoor programs by collaborating and working within a dynamic team to support the mission and vision of Girl Scouts. Provide experiences that promote a strong sense of self and positive values, while offering opportunities for challenge-seeking, building healthy relationships, encouraging community problem-solving, provide guidance on mental well-being practices, such as mindfulness, stress management, and resilience building, in the outdoor setting. Ability to successfully manage a multitude of programmatic details effectively and efficiently. Assist with setting up and breaking down camp facilities, including tents, shelters, and activity areas. Provide logistical support for transportation, supplies, and other camp-related tasks. Maintain and organize outdoor equipment and supplies, ensuring they are in good working condition. Education or Experience Bachelors degree in education, environmental sciences, recreation, or equivalent education, and at least 3+ years of work experience required. Other combinations of education, with relevant experience that demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position, will be considered. Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.  Demonstrated ability and sensitivity working with youth and persons of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles. A drive to develop youth interest in the outdoors, STEM, entrepreneurship, and life skills. Willing to become certified in challenge courses (i.e., low ropes, high ropes, zip-line, climbing wall) for educational purposes. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, experience working with cloud-based platforms, and Salesforce preferred.   Highly organized and detail-oriented with a bias towards execution and action.  Outstanding project management skills and operates with an entrepreneurial, solutions-oriented mindset.  Skilled relationship builder with a demonstrated ability to motivate and collaborate effectively across difference and across every level of the organization.  A proactive team player willing to pitch in at all levels while also holding a big picture, systems thinking mindset.  Exceptional written and verbal communicator.  Strong work ethic with a high degree of curiosity and a learning orientation; someone who leads and operates with a high level of integrity, confidentiality and discretion.  Be or become a registered member of the Girls Scouts of the United States of America; have a working knowledge of Girl Scout philosophy and programming and be committed to the Girl Scout mission. Prior Girl Scout experience is not required.  Experience in supervision and management of volunteers. Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and overnights Spanish/Bilingual skills a plus. Other Requirements Anticipated time away from the office is less than 25%. Possess a valid drivers License and proof of insurance. Must be able to work both in an office setting and independently off-site. Physical Requirements The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to withstand: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Operate office equipment manually. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds at times. Job Knowledge: Competent in required job skills and knowledge, displays understanding of how job relations to others, exhibits ability to learn and apply new skills, keeps up to date of current developments, requires minimal supervision, and uses resources effectively.
