Job Description:Sr Mechanical EngineerResponsibilities:Design, build, and test custom metrology equipment and low volume manufacturing, alignment, and optical assembly equipmentDesign and ownership of electro-mechanical and electro-optical mechanisms including assembly and system testing and tuningExplore and develop novel processing methodsDevelop and present concept design reviews and status updates to research teamsPolymer materials and flexible membrane mechanical testing & test toolingMiniature actuator selection and precision mechanism designDevelopment of basic manufacturing process from scratch and finding and building relationships with specialists' vendorsDesigning, building, and testing head-mounted prototype products for internal useIntegration of optical components, sensors, and actuators into prototype productsMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Opto-Mechanical EngineeringGD&T experience and proficiency with tolerance analysis10 plus years industry experience in mechanical engineer role, with system or product ownershipExperience with optical component packaging and basic metrologyCAD design skills, Solidworks preferred but not requiredFEA simulation for static structural, thermal and dynamic analysis of mechanical components and systemsExperience designing, building, and testing prototypesSystem integrationElectromechanical SystemsPrecision mechanism designPreferred Qualifications:Optical ray tracing and modelingMachine Design experienceLow volume (prototype) plastic parts – printing, casting, dip molding, bonding, ultrasonic welding, vacuum formingEstablishing small-volume manufacturing processes from scratchDesigning for human interaction, ergonomics, anthropometricsMechatronics designUnderstanding basic optics fundamentalsTop 3 must-have hard skills:5 plus years of experience is fineexperience in mechanical CAD, MACHINING, 3d PRINTING, LASER CUTTINGGood to have skills:Optical mechanicalWorking across different disciplinesDealing with working around and installing PCBsExperience with ergo models, body worn products, watch, car seat, glassesStory Behind the Need – Business Group and Key Projects:Cave project , but several different areas where help is neededCompelling Story and Candidate Value Proposition:Get to work on the intersection on graphics and human connection - little tests in a head set to room scale - AR VR GraphicsTypical Day in the Role:Building headsets, running a scale system - designing for benchtop and larger displays- focused around experiments, combination of building.working with some electrical engineersHow will performance be measured:Creative and adaptable, we have an idea that this might work based on the way the optical system works- getting to work quickly on testing a hypothesisPay Range: $80+/hr
