All of our dedicated associates possess a strong continuing focus on safety, reliability and environmental compliance.Open the door to your future at AmSty!Overview:Americas Styrenics is a leading integrated producer of styrene monomer and polystyrene.This position, located in St. James, Louisiana, operates assigned equipment and areas of the plant in a safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible manner. This position works on one of four operating shifts, receives work direction from the assigned Lead or Shift Activity Coordinator. The position is required to work 12-hour rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays, work overtime as needed and provide standby callout coverage.Primary ResponsibilitiesFollows all plant safety guidelines and policies, including fire-retardant clothing and other personal protective equipment, during the execution of job duties.Monitors day to day processes ensuring a safe operation in line with EH&S, quality, production & reliability, and cost objectives.Follows procedures for safe startup, shutdown, and operation of equipment.Operates valves, pumps, filters, heat exchangers, and other chemical plant equipment.Loads and unloads hazardous chemicals to and from railcars, tank trucks, barges, ships, and other shipping containers. Straps tanks and performs gauging calculations.Manages tank inventories to ensure on-time and on-specification deliveries.Monitors performance and health of equipment and processes using field rounds, listening to equipment operation, recording instrument readings, and catching samples.Communicates effectively with other operators, Shift Leads, and the Shift Activity Coordinator. Participates in shift relief meetings relaying key process and equipment information.Performs process and equipment troubleshooting to identify and resolve issues. Obtains qualifications to perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs as Repair / NDT personnel to tank cars in alignment with AAR regulations and requirements.Writes work notifications to ensure timely equipment repairs.Documents observations and troubleshooting efforts in written logbook entries.Prepares equipment and issues detailed Safe Work Permits. Participates as an active member of the fire brigade.Job Requirements/Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent Below experience also considered: 2-year Associates Degree in Process Technology Miliary rank of E4 or higher and discharged from the military within the last 2 years with Military Occupational Specialty in: Instrumentation, Electrical, Process Operations, Mechanical, or related disciplines 3 years' experience in operations or maintenance at an industrial manufacturing facilityOther Requirements (with or without accommodations):Works outside, year-round under various weather conditions.Stands and walks for extended periods of time.Requires balancing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, reaching and rapid work pace, etc.Must be willing and able to wear an air-purifying respirator and SCBA.Must be able to lift to 50 lbs.Must be willing and able to work at heights above 25 feet by climbing stairs and vertical ladders.Must be willing and able to work in tight, enclosed, or confined spaces.Additional Requirements:Strong leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.Effective written, verbal, and listening communication skills.Good interpersonal skills (develops positive working relationships with co-workers at all levels and within all organizations at the facility)Commitment to personal safety.Must be able to complete the requirements of the formal operator training program.
