This is a unique opportunity for a building-operations professional to use their knowledge and skills in a challenging and meaningful way. The individual will partner with professionals across the section to develop and implement a new, cloud-based system that moves us towards greatly improving data collection and tracking related to preventative, routine, and deferred facility maintenance. They will work closely with the Aquatic Facility Supervisor and the lead operating engineer to examine current procedures and practices, identify problems, and use innovative thinking to seek out resources and solutions that make sense for the future. Additionally, they will have an opportunity to be the driving force behind operating our world-class, national events.
About the Role:
As the Operating Engineer II, the incumbent will be responsible for the operations and maintenance of the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center, one of the premier, multi-programmed competitive, and community-facing aquatic facilities in the country. This position will help develop an encompassing and strategic maintenance plan to ensure the building and its assets are appropriately maintained while also ensuring little disruption to scheduled programming and events. In addition to a robust maintenance program, the incumbent will be involved with levy-funded Capital Investment Projects and network troubleshooting with KCIT. The incumbent will be expected to use current certifications and creative problem-solving to create opportunities for continuous improvement in all aspects of the facility's operations to achieve long-range energy efficiency goals
About the Team
The Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center is a legacy venue of the 1990 Seattle Goodwill Games and is one of the premier natatoriums in the nation with both diving and swimming complexes. The facility hosted the 2000 and 2012 Olympic Diving Trials, it is home to the PAC-12 Swimming and Diving Championships and will host the 2025 NCAA Swimming Championships. The facility is also open to the public for lap swims, family swimming, and swimming lessons.

Job DutiesWhat You Will Be Doing: Troubleshoot and perform major and specialized maintenance and repairs for multiple buildings, multiple bodies of water, HVAC units, filters, pumps, heat exchangers, variable speed drives, and whole-building infrastructure.
Build, maintain, and repair specialized event systems – including event layout, media displays, sound systems, network communications, program specs, and live data feeds – to support the needs of event directors, announcers, officials, major media outlets, and major regional and national events.
Perform as an onsite network administrator by maintaining, repairing, and managing the control room and its machines, repairs, and networking for Swiss Omega timing systems, multiple network components, software programming, communications via web, television, and streaming outlets/platforms, etc.
Maintain positive working relationships with local and state Health Departments, the City of Federal Way, and all other governing agencies to ensure code compliance.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, SkillsQualifications You Bring: Journey-level knowledge of maintenance and repair of equipment, including heating and ventilation, pneumatic controls, electrical controls, chillers, boilers, pumps and piping, laboratory ventilation, refrigeration, electricity, and HVAC controls.
Skill in evaluating and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical problems.
Knowledge of the products, materials, equipment, and tools related to the aquatics industry.
Experience in high-level event production.
Experience working in or around aquatic facilities, maintaining equipment specific to competitive aquatics, and tracking assets in an aquatics facility according to a care plan and lifespan. i.e. springboards and touchpads.
Knowledge of code compliance regarding local, state, and federal laws.
A demonstrated history of problem-solving in high-stress situations.

CFC Certification Federal Class 1
Grade 3 Steam Engineer license (Within 2 years of hire)

It Would Be Great If You Also Bring: Knowledge of the requirements and rules of all aquatic sports, i.e., what equipment is required for each event, knowledge to transition a facility to meet the needs of various events, and setting up/testing electronic and network competitive aquatic equipment.
Experience with competitive swim and dive software such as Meet Manager/Team Manager, Swiss Omega Timing Systems, iDive, Meet Mobile, and the ability to troubleshoot and integrate multiple cloud-based systems.
Experience maintaining and repairing electronic facility and emergency systems such as Honeywell, BAC Net Lon Works, Tridium Niagara Framework, and Guardian Emergency Systems for security and fire protection.

Work Schedule:This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime-eligible. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. Work weeks vary depending on work assignment, some shifts include weekend work.
